- Murphy's state of the state speech took some shots at Florida Gov Ron De santis as he eyes national office, saying New Jersey’s economic growth was outpacing Florida and “many of the so-called ‘business friendly’ states.” “Some governors boast that their state is ‘where woke goes to die.’ I’m not even sure I know what that means,” Murphy said, referencing a phrase DeSantis often uses when describing his state. Murphy laid out a plan to overhaul the state’s nearly century-old liquor law system and lift an existing cap on the number of licenses and allow municipalities to tack on their own local fees.  He  announced a deadline extension for his  ANCHOR Property Tax Relief program allowing eligible residents to continue applying through Feb 28. Abortion rights and tackle car thefts  

 Republicans blasted Governor Phil Murphy’s speech led by Senate Minority Leader Steve Oroho who gave the  rebuttal .“Taxes are too high,”  “Second quarter GDP was negative.” Young people are leaving the state. “We have a budget process that’s out of control,” he said. The budget’s up nearly 50% since Murphy took office. Democrats have absolutely nothing to show for the windfall we’ve received, he complained. “Where did it go?” Parents have been denied a voice in their children’s education. Those parents deserve to be heard,”   He noted the crime scourge in the state, too, including car thefts, exacerbated by the governor’s early release policy, The Republican’s hit Murphy for double-digit increases in health insurance premiums for public sector workers and local governments.

- Superior Court Judge Francis R. Hodgson Jr. has been appointed to lead the Ocean County courts as assignment judge starting Feb. 1, New Jersey Chief Justice Stuart Rabner announced Tuesday. He will take the place of Judge Marlene Lynch Ford, who is retiring after over 24 years on the bench
