Thursday January 5 News Updates Lakewood

-Earlier this evening yeshiva bochurim learning at R' Nosson Steins Yeshiva at 10th and Monmouth in Lakewood  were chased by a black man wielding a manchette, reports say the man chased them into the building before he fled the scene. police are on patrol and no motive was given

- FAAnews Lakewood monthly crash reports this month was higher than usual. Total Crashes for December is 503, resulting in  39 injuries and 22 Pedestrians struck. November numbers Total Crashes 482 resulting in 38 injuries with 15 pedestrians struck. 
Crash totals for 2022 nearly 5,500 car accidents, Fatalities 10,  Pedestrians struck 154 That is an average of nearly 3 pedestrians struck by vehicles each week, and 1 fatality every 5 weeks! see full story on FAA. The mayor was asked about th high accident rates and  blamed it on bad drivers and proposing more education on safety to young drivers and called for more enforcement. No mention of upgrading infrastructure or other factors that contributed to the traffic and dangerous roadways was made.

- McCarthy again lacks the votes to win. With the vote ongoing, McCarthy already lacks the votes needed to win, an indication that his negotiations have failed to win over his critics. By 10 minutes into the vote, more than seven members had voted for other candidates, denying McCarthy the 218 votes needed to win and forcing an eighth ballot.

- Lakewood girls high schools entrance exam will take place Sunday January 15 at Bais Faiga ther will be only one written entrance exam administered jointly by 15 high schools. Applications will be given out at the test and are due back by January 24.

    1. Virtually all amber alerts are custody battles. Unfortunately, many of those can be life threatening.
