Township Ignores Public Criticism at Meeting

It was evident from the township meeting yesterday why they want to keep it remote and not in person. They don't want to be criticized in public and called out for what they are doing. Also the committee can vote against the will of the people while hiding behind the camera.

There were several items on the agenda that benefited individuals or institutions but would have an impact on the already bad traffic and safety. Without the option to publicly confront the officials, frustrated Lakewood residents are limited to email their comments with no option for a  give and take. Many residents yesterday sent in their comments begging the committee to give more time and an opportunity to stop some of the proposed ordinances. Others were critical of the way the mayor and committee are ramming these changes down our throats over a remote meeting with 30 seconds to send an email in which the mayor shows off his speed reading skills. The mayor doubled down and said this format is the best way to discuss and reach out to the committee.

Despite the pleas from the public, the committee did not even show any concern or sympathy to the points and complaints; they passed the street vacations and lowered density requirements with no objections from the members and moved on passing all items. The mayor said they are working on other streets in the Oak and Vine area so it is no big deal to vacate other ones. Committeemen Menashe Miller and Meir Lichtenstein continued not to show their face and hide behind the camera on the zoom remote meeting.

A resident called for the return of in person meetings since committeeman Mike Delia has been a no show at recent meetings. The mayor chastised the commenter for having the chutzpah to call on a public servant of the community for 60 years to retire and complain of having to read those comments.  The Committee also passed an ordinance to allow construction of existing homes  closer to the road ignoring that the Planning Board concerns over traffic safety hazard and transparency concerns. There was some touching moments as members paid tribute to the passing of inspection dept head Mike Saccamano.
Asked what the committee will do after the planning board approved big projects that will put thousands of more cars on the roadways, the mayor said they are constantly working on fixing the traffic and  blamed the county and state.

  1. Ray and Mike have to go, people. There will be real choices this year, B"H. Some exciting, surprise last minute entries also, from what I'm hearing. Zoom is gloom. This current format must be ended soon.

  3. Did you hear Ray say he wishes Mike would run again and stay on another term, if that's not laughing at us I don't know what is. Despicable.

  4. For those that want to see how the public gets treated, watch the meeting from the 10 minute mark to the end. 6 ordinances, multiple public comments for each, voted passed no discussion whatsoever by committee. Regular public comments afterwards, all done in less than 20 minutes. Shame on them.

    2. You're basically telling elected officials that it's one strike and they're out. If one vote doesn't go your way, it's obvious that it's all a bluff, and he has to leave. You can't think that perhaps there was a different reason over here or something.
Basically, you are unpleasable. So you become irrelevant.

  8. It's obvious the committee are puppets and work for the select few and powerful if you investigate the origins of most resolutions and ordnance they are probably there at the request of someone powerful and the committee is told to pass it no matter what mo matter if it hurts the general public.
Too bad that thousands of yidden live in a town where the leadership abuses them and looks out for themselves yet pretend as if they care for everyone.
The prophet Amos had very strong words to those people. Hashem should protect us.

    1. Why does the Township Committee even bother sending the question to the Planning Board to look over if their review doesn't make a difference to them anyway? It's bad enough the Planning Board members aren't paid, but you want to waste their time with nonsense that you don't even care about? Shame on you, Township Committeemen!

    3. The 4 Committeemen ignored the planning board's recommendation on the banquet hall ordinance too. They also request the board's input for show but could care less what they recommend. They're a bunch of disgusting fakers!

  9. The chutzpah is the arrogance fron Miller and Lichtenstein who know How WRONG they are especially Lichtenstein who prides himself as a hatzolah guy and Mr safety to go ahead and continue voting for the people work for is sick and disgusting shame on them. They treat Lakewood tax payers and residents like babies thinking we don't deserve a response or reason.
    Shame on them

  10. Miller worked hard to destroy the infrastructure in Lakewood. Now he wants to do the same to the County. If anything, we need to be saved from his incompetence. Keep him far away from any position of power. He will only harm us more.

  11. Miller is counting on his army uniform to win him votes and cover up for the incompetence and corruption in Lakewood govt were he served for 20 years. Truth many in Lakewood would be happy to see him go but to have him back in power at the county will be more of the same or worse. he should resign and let others run lakewood govt.
He thinks we are stupid thinking that he will run to fix the county roads when he was in charge for 20 years and look what happened to Lakewood traffic.
