  3. Chaseneh halls.
    The more the 'merrier'.
    Competition is healthy. Very Healthy.
It will keep the prices of Chasenehs down (unless the collude - but then they may end up on the "Pidyon Shvuyim" list).

    2. Competition is healthy when it comes to fill additional need. Competition just to oust another's business is hasogas gevul.always judge the situation as you would if it were your's being infringed upon. Would you be happy to work really hard just to stay afloat, not make any money, just because someone comes along to cut the prices and displace you? I think then you would reconsider the comment which is quite insensitive.

    3. There is certainly a need for additional halls in town. There are chassunos in Lakewood for people from out of town too, and there is definitely enough business for all.

  5. Why do all these schools hide the fact that they're building wedding halls on their public notices? What are they scared of that they deliberately use vague terms so that the neighbors won't figure out what they're doing?

It seems pretty obvious why. It’s because they don’t want resistance from the neighbors, so they figure the less the public knows the better the chances of getting approved.

    2. While this may be true in some cases, in the case of Aderes, they just completed a very public rayze it campaign which prominently featured the plan for a wedding hall.

Also happens to be a great school...

    3. In the case of Aderes Bais Yaakov, they did the same shtick as the other schools by not telling any of the neighbors in their Public Notice about the planned Wedding Hall.

The law requires direct Notice about proposed uses to the neighbors. It is wrong to rely on advertising a fundraiser in the local Weekly and assume that the neighbors and rest of the public became informed that way. If this were indeed good enough, they wouldn't have bothered spending money to send direct Notices and would've only done the marketing fundraisers.

They were actually called out for this in the Public Meeting, but the Board members simply replied that it's too bad on the public, and if you don't like it - you can sue us in court! Go watch the video. It was that crazy.

    4. The neighbor getting the notice does not necessarily know about the raise it campaign. So it would be nice to properly inform the neighbors and not rely on them knowing because of a fund raising campaign .

  8. All these wedding halls are fine - it’s not a shul so no need to stop it. Keep the lawyers free for fighting shuls. Much more important.
