  1. Besides for the horrific township planning, congestion, traffic......

It bothers me to no end how the yungerleit, the people this town was originally built for, have been completely sold out and don't have any realistic path to purchasing an adorable home in the current environment.

I don't think I'll even understand how this happened.

    1. That is the way the world works.

No frum community ever stays the "in" neighborhood and no frum neighborhood ever keeps the same demographics for more than thirty - forty years.

I'm not defending the builders and anyone else who caused the situation. Just saying that those types are always around.

    2. There are two simple factors that answer your question. The first is the GREED of the developers and certain real estate brokers. The second is that our elected officials decided to look the other way and made an affirmative decision to ignore our concerns.

    3. Its all about people making money!

    4. Simple at one point there was talk of flooding the market with homes but it was postponed to the markets from crashing and keep the profits up

  2. Because for 50 years no one formed any Frum Communities for the people stuck in Boro Park and Flatbush . So they all came to Lakewood

    1. Most of the Lakewood homes are being sold to people in Lakewood, not those coming from Brooklyn - with the exception of Oak and Vine. The rising prices are not related to outsiders, and has to do with rising costs, demand, and supply.

    2. Thats not true, most new construction is sold to outsiders look at satmar Belz Flea market south route 9 all for the heimishe

    3. Look at Albert run, Prospect/William's, James street, Westgate, considerably more houses than the chasidim, and more expensive. The developers aren't building for the yeshiva leit, as that requires high density development, which is always a fight with the neighbors. Satmar/Belz/Viznitz are selling homes at about 500k, they aren't the ones asking 800 for a townhouse. The anti chusid mudslinging and fake news continues.

    4. No one is paying 800K for a townhouse in Westgate either/
It's cheaper to buy there than in the new Chaisidish developments

    5. Not true. There’s a duplex currently with the asking price of $529k

  3. Houses in Lakewood were up before materials went up thanks to a few realtors bringing the whole BP and Williamsburg here. Those realtors should be shunned from the community.

  4. There's many people out there who even now don't care enough about anything beyond
    themselves
Foolish therefore until that is changed to cast Guilt at developers or those on the on the zoning board
everyone should acknowledge this comes back to their neighbours and perhaps even their parents

For a Community to be a success in the long term people have to go beyond their own narrow box and work for the collective consistently together
    &
actively keep out those who selfish narrow interests gain by putting themselves first
and ruthlessly when necessary For positive public progress

Unless this is accepted what's the purpose of these discussions

  5. Look downstairs in BMG there is s plauqe on the wall between mizrach & maariv that is dedicated to many of our own great develpoers who greedily killed the town by building these trash army barracks which we call townhouses instead of nice homes with yards

  6. Unfortunately too many askanim, connected people and committed members are making money off this. So never going to happen repercussions....

    ReplyDelete
  7. Maybe that is because not Enright people would have paid the extra money that nice homes with yards cost.

I'm no fan of the developers but had they only built nice homes with yards then Lakewood would have been unaffordable twenty years ago.

  10. The vaad and powers to be are all in for Murphy reelection they are keeping quiet now and will come out blazing with nig Hakoras hatov campaign in the general election this November.
Murphy will visit Lakewood for a post covid photo op and askanim will thank him for letting Lakewood stay open and not shutting down schools.

    1. He did look the other way and sent millions of dollars to help us stay safe from covid , pretty ironic

  11. We have nobody to blame but ourselves, not the developers or builders. There are no goyim buying these houses, so if 15 years ago we would have decided not to pay more than a certain amount for a house, and not pay more than a basic increase fir inflation, then the prices could not have gone up . Its the greedy buyers from our community who don't care about the market that are bidding up the prices. Don't always blame others, when we ourselves are the guilty ones.

    1. Exactly. In Gateshead where there is a kehila, you can't buy a house without permission from the kehila and they dictate the prices. Where there are goyishe buyers ,you cant do that but in Lakewood, not one goy is buying so its only our community that is bidding up the prices when they could have stayed normal if nobody would have overpaid. We are our own worst enemies.

    2. I'm afraid your not entirely correct. I spoke to a rov in gateshead and he confirmed for me that the takuno in gateshead is only that there should not be a bidding war between 2 yehudim buying in the area and from a goy. that's it. if the seller is a yid he can ask what he want's and he'll probably get it as there aren't enough homes on the market. a goy can also ask what he wish's only he's dealing with only one yehudi at a time, and no goy would even think of paying the exorbitant prices the yhudim are forced to pay. prices there have skyrocketed over the past few years, but only in the small area where the yehudim live. 2 blocks over and it's not even half the price

  14. Huh? The market is what dictates the prices for the most part and the real estate market is crazy now. Before the market craziness however some realtors definitely drove prices crazy high by marketing heavily in other communities where paying 800k is a bargain for them.

  15. Bill Hobday was against the Realtors & Developers
Of course he was turned into an anti-semite
we were all suckered in as a holy mission in 2003 to write in M Miller as a candidate against him and he lost

Now they're doing the same slightly updated versions culturally ?!
