-Yeshivos and private schools scramble with short notice from LSTA to notify parents of courtesy busing increase from 180 to $260. Parents have until tomorrow August 1 at 12:00 pm to opt out of busing otherwise they will be charged the new fee per child. This is only for private school parents, however public school parents don't have to pay as Lakewood township fully cover their courtesy busing. The Township chose to do this they are not obligated. The big question is why they are picking one over the other and discriminating against private school parents.
- Lakewood Schools raise tuition for next year citing inflation and the need to increase salaries. At the same time advocacy is taking place by the OU and some philanthropists to bring tuition relief through school vouchers. In the past the OU met with NJ gov. Chris Christie who favored expanding charter schools and extending state dollars for special education to Jewish day schools. There was a proposed bill in NJ, A-2830, to create a system of publicly funded scholarships or vouchers for students to attend schools of their choice, public or private. Sponsored by state Assemblymen Angel Fuentes and Lou Greenwald, both Camden County Democrats, the bill would limit the program to seven school districts and 20,000 students, the smallest number yet.
