That’s Greek to Me!

 Chanukah Postscript – Iran

“There will be a point in time... when... Israel will have no choice, but to act!” –

That’s Greek to Me!

About two weeks ago, against the backdrop of kindling the Menorah at the Western Wall, Benny Gantz was מפרסם not exactly פרסומי ניסא, but, rather, his own agenda instead, should the Vienna talks about a nuclear Iran fail.

“There needs to be a military option on the table,” he said.

Chanukah’s timeless message puts the current crisis in context: Two millennia ago, the Supreme Entity let a single cruse of oil last for eight days; amidst a supernatural victory over many at the hands of a few, ensuring our continuity.

The irony is that Israel’s Defense Minister sees הדלקת נרות  as a ritual and his own game-plan as the text, whereas, the unvarnished truth is, that the benediction of שעשה נסים לאבותינו is the real narrative of Am Yisrael, and any military preparation, as we speak, is ceremonial.

In his commentary to Torah Ramban writes וישב ל"ז-ט"ו] הגזירה אמת והחריצות שקר]  what’s Divinely ordained from Above, renders any human endeavor to exact a different outcome, irrelevant.

The Talmud [Yoma 10A] relates that ‘Poras’, or Iran, will be a major player in theater vs. Malchus Edom. – Hashem charts the course of world events, so obviously, this is the script. If the Gemara foretells what will take place and Benny Gantz disagrees, we don’t pasken like him, but, like the Talmud. The IDF's plan to preempt any action is  not a factor here.

Sometimes, the Jewish media espouses “mediaocrity” by choosing to conveniently delete. How about an article in Mishpacha, “ Teheran: The Unassailable Hashgacha Protis”?!

Another senior official in the memshala sounded a similar note as Ganz did. “Israel will defend itself by itself.”  עפרא לפומיה.

There is a lot of work for us all to do –  תשובה ומעשים טובים!

As far as Mr. Ganz and the other official’s statements are concerned, the line I heard the other week resonates: History doesn’t just repeat itself – it rhymes!

  1. Are u suggesting we do nothing and sit idly as Iran goes nuclear and wipes Israel off the map??
Have we forgotten what happened 75 years ago?

History does repeat itself we have to have the option to bomb them before they attack

Just focus on the above and forget about the rest of the article.

When you are dealing with a tinok shnisba like BG be happy he comes to the kosel when the menorah is being lit. Such a thing would have been unthinkable for a senior secular Israeli politician when he was growing up.
