Erev Shabbos Chanukah Halachos Uminhagim
Halachos for this year erev shabbos chanukah based in part on Rabbi Felder's sefer Shiurei Halacha.
One who is traveling should give themselves extra time for arrival in order to daven mincha and light chanuka candles
One should light the Ner Chanuka before the Ner shabbos but it should be done not less then within a half hour to shkia or 5 to 10 minutes prior to licht benching.
The Mishna Berura writes it is preferable to daven Mincha before one lights ner Chanukah on Erev Shabbos since it would be a תרתי דסתרי, (meaning if one considers it to be night after the plag how can you go and daven mincha afterwards). However if one can not do so, he may daven after lighting the menorah especially if it means davening with a minyan as opposed to davening before b'yechidos without a minyan.
The lights must be capable of burning until 30 minutes after nightfall they should be lit for an hour and forty five minutes. Therefore, one must be careful on erev Shabbos to use sufficient oil or long candles that can burn until this time.
Children should also use long shabbos candles so their menorah will burn longer.
A wife can light shabbos candles after her husband lit the menorah and does not have to wait for everyone else to finish lighting
This year shabbos is also Rosh Chodesh we insert in benching על הניסים ,רצה ,יעלה ויבא
According to the mishna Berura we do not give or receive chanuka gifts on shabbos unless its needed for shabbos
This year by Maariv on Motzei shabbos we begin to say ותן טל ומטר לברכה
On Motzei shabbos there are various minhagim if one lights the menorah before or after havdalah, The minhag haolam is to make havdala first bnei Torah should wait until 72 minutes to light. The hadlaka in shul is done before havdalah.
Rosh chodesh is also on Sunday
