-  -California imposes a statewide mask mandate because of the #Omicron variant starting Wednesday.

- kever Rashbi in Miron may have to temporarily close as the insurance companies refuse to cover the area after the previous coverage has expired

- Biden won't extend student loan relief. Student loan payments to restart February 1, 2022
- NJ 16-and-17-year-olds are now eligible for COVID-19 booster shots.
-  U.S. Supreme Court declines to block New York vaccine mandate for health care workers that does not allow religious exemptions.

- Nursing home covid outbreaks in NJ are back up to 160, after dropping to ~120 about 10 days ago.  Nearly every resident in the LTCs are fully vaccinated.

- UK: PM Johnson says the first UK death has been recorded "with" the #Omicron variant. No further details, yet.

- To get the full child "dependent care" tax credit for 2021 one can pay up the full year's tuition  ahead of time before the end of December and legally claim the credit for the whole year. The maximum amount of work-related expenses you can take into account for purposes of the credit is $8,000 if you have one qualifying person, and $16,000 if you have two or more qualifying persons. Talk to your provider or playgroup about this pay up option. (And tax advisor)

- NY mask or vaxx mandate now in effect for all indoor public spaces Local health departments would be tasked with enforcement, potentially even handing out $1,000 fines. Rockland county officials said they will not enforce it.

- BDE: Rabbi Yehuda Aryeh (Yidel) Shapira, z”l, who served as the gabbai of the Belzer shtibel on 16th Avenue in Boro Park for some fifty years, passed away overnight Sunday, at the age of 97. (Hamodia)

  1. Regarding prepaying dependent care, my accountant is telling me that you can only claim in the year the care was received.
    Where is this information coming from? How can it be verified?

  2. The IRS does not allow you to take a tax credit if you prepay daycare. You must wait for the year that the services are received in order to claim the credit.

  3. See below directly from the IRS website.

    "Expenses prepaid in an earlier year. If you pay for services before they are provided, you can count the prepaid expenses only in the year the care is received. Claim the expenses for the later year as if they were actually paid in that later year."
