The maximum amount of work-related expenses you can take into account for purposes of the credit is $8,000 if you have one qualifying person, and $16,000 if you have two or more qualifying persons. Regarding prepaying dependent care, my accountant is telling me that you can only claim in the year the care was received.

The IRS does not allow you to take a tax credit if you prepay daycare. You must wait for the year that the services are received in order to claim the credit.
