  3. “changing minhagim”on ST is a slippery slope
and my RY Shlita is against it.
i believe in keeping the regular tzura of the siddur
once u start changing there are plenty of other changes people will make.vihameivin yavin

    1. The minhag brought down in the MB is to dance 3 or 7 hakofos like hoshans Rabbah - I don't see many shuls following that minhag rather they dance hundreds of times.. how about doing 7 hakofos in davening and after davening let all those that want dance their hearts out.. or it's no fun anymore as most of the fun is to see how long you can stretch out a hakafa past the gabai's wishes..

    2. Sounds like you need to join one of those grouchy 7:00 minyanim.

The MB brings the ikkar minhag, but thats's no contradiction to dancing for longer. It has been the minhag for centuries (there's a sefer called Toldos Chag Simchas Torah, look it up).

  4. Some mispalelim wanted to move hakafos to the end of davening and my rav was adamantly against it. He explained the purpose of the hakafos is a buildup to open the aron for krias Hatorah. It is shocking that some shuls changed on the whim for convenience purposes.

    1. Did he also tell you that the minhag is only about 400 years old, so while that is it's intended purpose, moving isn't yeherag vaal yaavor.

    2. I wouldnt play games with a minhag that is "only" 400 yerlars old. Also, its brought in MB that way- tha hakafos are part of pesichas ha'aron for krias hatorah. It really makes no sense to change that.

    3. Ab since its "only" 400 yrs old would you be ok with doing away with the minhag of hakavod completely as well - that's the next step..

    4. Its either you keep minhagim or dont this is a 400 yr old minhag accepted and practices across the spectrum

    5. Why are the two options to either not get home on Simchas Torah before 3:00 PM or to be home at 8:30 AM? Why is there no middle ground?

The same Mishnah Brurah says that beginning your Shabbos or Yom Tov meal close to or after Chatzos is also wrong. Why can't Davening begin at 8 or 8:15 and conclude by 12 or 12:15, and then have "hakofos shnios" for all those that want it.

We always say Uvah L'Tzion at Shachris. But on Shabbos and Yom Tov we push it off to Mincha because it's tirchah d'tziburah. It's only an extra two minutes, but that's what we do. In this spirit, shouldn't a middle ground be found so that people who want to can have a normal Davening and good hakofos, but begin their meal at a normal time? Don't worry: those who want to can stay on and have their second set of hakofos for as long as they want to.

    1. Thank you
nobody almost of the Millennials and whippersnappers really care or they just conveniently misconstrue facts. World revolves around them
they will challenge: what can we do and what are we supposed to do?? feel guilty
it's a fully Jewish and healthy attitude to start
once you feel guilt even if you can't comply
everything else will flow from that

we're now living with this monster that our cool glorious communities have created

    What ??
    400 years is a long time !!
Black hats aren’t around that long
Neither is Chassidus Or Minhag HaYeshivos
Are you completely unaware of Our history??

  9. It’s not surprising. They are bitter since their monstrosity building was not approved by the township and it really kills that others have a bigger shul.

" I sincerely hope that amcha weren't among those who took advantage of what was clearly a loss to the retailer. There are bargains and there are prices that are very clearly mistakes and it does not behoove a frum yid to risk the chilul H-shem that could result from such a story.

  11. Are they sending new P-ebt cards to people who got them last year? Or are they re- loading the old ones?

  12. You can do Ata Hareta before or after, as long as the Rav optimizes the bidding income.

  13. You all missed my point about 400 years. While I cherish the minhag, and not suggesting it be abandoned, there are bigger problems in our community than moving it to later. Hakafos has become something that was never intended, and if it's not fixed, I believe we are at a point where people will completely abandon it. I know many people that unfortunately skip it. Being that it's only 400 years, and not a minhag from the geonim or earlier, there is more flexibility.

  14. Why is anyone obligated to comment shaychus to the other comments? All that comment suggested is that some people are bitter that their kids don’t have a seat in shul and therefore want to get home early while their kids are still waiting by the window. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that comment.

  16. "purpose of the hakafos is a buildup to open" only applies by day. By night is perfectly acceptable to let everyone go home and have a meal and come back
