- The Lakewood scoop website came under intense criticism from residents in shuls after davening and all over social media as it continues its campaign of ignoring anything associated with the Lakewood yeshiva Beth Medrash Govoha. Calling itself once the heartbeat of the lakewood community it did not report or have a single mention about the Adirei hatorah event that was attended by 27,000 people mostly Lakewood residents, not one word not a report, or any photos. A car fire in BMG parking lot yesterday was reported to have happened on Clifton Avenue with no mention of BMG. As today gimmel Tamuz is the Yahrzeit of Rav Shneur Kotler zatzal there was no mention of that either, as of this morning, while tls dedicated a full post (Possibly a paid ad) to the yahrzeit of the Lubavitcher rebbe. The glaring omission was called out. Responding to the criticism on twitter TLS did not mention the yahrzeit of Rav Shneur but instead posted other yahrzeits that it has covered in the past. They wrote " A couple non-resourceful and/or hateful readers also claimed we don’t cover other Yahrtzeits. Here are some recent posts about the Yahrtzeits of other Tzadikim". Rav Shneur Kotler who built up the Lakewood yeshiva was not on the list. On social media some made memes showing the palestinian map of the middle east missing Israel and a map of lakewood without BMG.

Let's see Hatzolah of Central Jersey call them out on it as they are a sponsor.

  4. Just to clarify.
    1. BMG Talmidim, past and present do not have internet. Even the ones who have it for parnasah purposes use it only for parnasah. Using the internet for anything other then parnasah is strictly banned and the 'internet heter' is retroactively revoked upon first use. There is a 'no tolerance' policy attached to the 'internet heter' takanah.
    2. People who do have internet without the IH - obviously non - BMG talmidim, past or present - are not wanted within the Yeshivah circles. The only way of keeping them away is by NOT reporting what goes on in the Yeshivah.
Thus The Scoop may be justified for not reporting BMG news.

    What a bully.

  18. TLS did not report my victory in the Appellate Division, or any other articles during which I have been covered about over a dozen times by the APP, five times by NJ.com, by Politico, NJ Spotlight, but TLS did show some interest in reporting that Judge Scarola helped me out in court.

    https://thelakewoodscoop.com/news/video-judge-scarola-on-state-loans-to-lakewood-school-district-how-much-longer-can-this-ponzi-scheme-go-on/

"In an apparent attempt to help Arthur Lang, Esq. formulate a question in court today, Judge Susan Scarola (OAL Mercerville) used the words 'ponzi scheme' to describe the state loans to the Lakewood School District, Attorney Inzelbuch stated in a court-side video. Inzelbuch, at no cost to the district, went down to Offices of Administrative Law in Mercerville."

After the appellate victory I wrote an email to several people, "TLS would take my press release. Maybe there simply was not enough room for the story on the TLS website given all the important local matters. The Lakewood court case story is national news." TLS replied, "We generally don’t post things sent out all over." After forwarding to others, TLS emailed me, "So now publicly shaming a Jewish outlet is okay with you, because we chose not to publish it? That’s a low play and you definitely lost all respect you had left." I am not sure why I lost respect beforehand. I guess because they think I am a chump to allow continue the litigation without pay. I answered, "You did not respond. How do you justify not publishing the story? You should not be called out on it? Shouldn't people know that your outlet is biased, nay, puts other considerations above journalistic excellence?" They replied, "Your attitude and entitlement-filled responses should give you a clue as to why we didn’t publish it."

You bet I have an attitude and sense of entitlement. I resent the BOE for retaliating against and am entitled to get back my summer school job, my after school job, my extra class and guess what, a promotion. I am entitled to exercise my First Amendment right to petition the government to fix the funding formula without retaliation.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. But I can't sue for illegal retaliation because I have been and need to continue defending the BOE against allegations of mismanagement, incompetence, and wasting taxpayer money, all true and presented by the AG at trial, while at the same time plead for $100 million a year for the district. A billion dollars over 7 or 8 years is so much more than a $50 an hour job over 7 or 8 summers. My gosh, how pathetic. Look at what I am writing. What is happening is nothing short of bizarre.

      Delete
    2. Your victory is one of the most important local stories of the year. People need to be informed with how the government spends and misspends their tax dollars. TLS depriving the public of your press release is nothing short of journalistic malpractice. I'd say that should invalidate them as a news outlet and they should lose any public benefits they receive for being "press", the parking permits, the free entrance passes, township money, and other government benefits.

    4. Thank you. It's hard to have put your whole working life, which I started late because I was in BMG until 41, in an organization believing that if you solve all its problems, and I mean all, I even have a plan to build roads using the school laws, but most particularly, tame seize its holy grail, you would move up, but instead, to find that you are resented by corporate leadership and retaliated for stepping onto their turf.

This happens because of this bizarre political system we have in Lakewood. Every interest is confined to its own sphere, jealous of its own turf, yet all power brokers are intertwined with each other in controlling elections. The BOE is extremely weak, the Igud has no leadership and the Vaad will not get involved in school matters because it needs to maintain shalom in the Kehilla. This separation of powers might be lauded if there was some form of checks and balances. Alas, not even the shareholders of the company, the people of Lakewood, can hold the executive leadership accountable. The lack of effective oversight has allowed a tyrant to fill the vacuum and hijack control of the corporation, whose word is law, even if it leads to insolvency.

In any place else, a faction would coalesce behind a man with vision and run its own candidates of like mindedness for office, or simply for power for its own sake, gain support within either party and take power through elections. Not here because every faction and every yachid has to speak with one voice and we all need to have achdus and show ha'karos ha'tov.

    5. The point of this world is not always to see the fruits of your labor. Your work is holy work. Even if you don't see the victory, you will have accomplished the mission to fight for Hashem's children. The real reward is on the next world, and never forget, lefum tzarah agra.

      Delete
    6. Lefum tzarah agra. Thanks. Everything that has happened has been b'syata d'shmaya and there were many blessings in disguise.

For example, I was fuming at AK when in 2016 he had district lawyers bring the BOE into the case, but it was a blessing in disguise. It did help, it's so easy to get on my good side, that they said my briefs were lucid and convincing, and they promised that they would not interfere with my conduct of the case. I insisted that they come in just as participants not parties. (Quick thinking!)

When Inzelbuch took over in 2017, the BOE was already a participant, already told the new judge that they only had an observatory role, but I guess Michael did not realize that his role was already decided to be limited to being a participant, even though I gave him all the court papers and he already was playing his runaround games that he loves to do to keep people off balance. He waited until the eve of the trial in 2018 and the judge ruled it was too late and he should remain as a nonparty. Had Aaron not done what he did in 2016, and I was so angry with him, the role of the BOE would not have already been decided, Inzelbuch would have been alerted in 2017 that the BOE had just a small role in the case , and he would not have been so careless to wait until it was too late to change the role of the BOE to become a party with the same power to call witnesses, settle, appeal, etc. as I had in the case. It's funny, but the z'chus harabin saved us from the the rabim (shliach c'mosom). A real Purim story.

  20. The district tried to litigate the T & E issue in 2002, 2006, 2014, 2019 and 2021 but later flip-flopped in my case in 2021 by taking the same position as the state, that education improved, and by pleading that the state is providing T & E in Lakewood. This perfidious 2021 pleading would have annihilated the only possible cause of action and, it seems to me, is avaricious, but it is unnecessary because it is the fault of the formula; any allegation that BOE mismanagement caused the denial of T & E is a smokescreen.

    http://arthur2240.ipage.com/documents/BOEExceptions.pdf

To wit, here is what the Lakewood Task Force wrote in 2002 (page 2):

"In actuality, the Court did not render its decision until the fall of 2002, and the decision was highly unfavorable to Lakewood. . . . Michael Inzlebuch, Esq., made a presentation regarding the Court's adverse decision, and the reason the Board elected not to appeal. In brief. . . . several current Abbott districts would not meet this criterion if they were being evaluated for eligibility today. Since the Court was within its discretion to set these low standards, and since the Court did not make any obvious errors of law in making its ruling, Lakewood did not have a solid basis for appealing the decision."

Really? Here is what the Appellate Division said this year:

"Because we conclude the Commissioner used the wrong standard in making her factual determination, we instead evaluate whether there exists support in the record for the agency's conclusion under the correct standard."

The BOE tried to do the same thing as me in 2002, but rather than appeal, they just played dead. It took 21 years to correct this mistake.

The "CEIFA legislation stated among its purposes that the State of New Jersey would provide a 'thorough and efficient system of public education' and assure '[a] level of financial support sufficient to provide [these] programs and services.' Unfortunately, the CEIFA funding formula, when applied to Lakewood and its unique demographic and socio/economic profile, substantially under funds the level of State educational aid needed to provide a thorough and efficient education. It is the position of the Task Force that such a legislative 'fix' for the CEIFA formula does exist. Unfortunately, the problem is highly complex and technical; not one of the numerous experts on New Jersey educational funding that the Task Force met with had a simple and clean solution for Lakewood's problem that would not negatively impact other districts. The Task Force also recognizes that its members possess neither the time nor the expertise required to properly address this challenge." page 2.
