Lakewood To Act on Marijuana Use After Schools reach out For Children's Safety

At the end of the Meeting tonight Committeeman Lichtenstein brought up concerns from schools as recreational Marijuana is now legal and Lakewood is very populated with children, he asked the attorneys come up with some allowing us to have some home rules here  and see what we can do to prevent this legally under the guidelines that the governor has provided

70 towns in NJ have banned the sale of recreational Marijuana prior to It becoming legal by gov Murphy,  Lakewood Mayor Ray Coles said  last year with the Lakewood shopper newspaper the Lakewood mayor Ray Coles said  Marijuana should be legalized in the long term in Lakewood but a lot of things have to fall into place. in November/ The question of legalizing weed was in the ballot Out of 26,364 Lakewood residents  18,237 or 70%  voted  NO  while 8,127 or 30% voted yes.

  1. We all used to know how to get weed from certain neighbors back in the day and we all were fine. It’s a tradition that goes way back in Lakewood for as long as I can remember.

  3. The whole way this ordinance was done it was done is shady. Watch the video at the end Lichtenstein brings it up casually at the end of the meeting the other members dont react or discuss it and vote on it on the spot. It was obviously planned and discussed prior to the meeting.
The question is who put the pressure on them to ban it after they insisted on allowing it.
Also the fact that most of the people in Lakewood voted against it didnt seem to bother this committee they only did so because the schools asked them to.

  4. Not really sure what any law will accomplish. They are not allowed to make a law banning the use . They can only ban the sale. But anybody can drive a few minutes to other towns to buy it ,so what exactly are you accomplishing. Unless you feel we have to make a statement thst we are against it ,even if it accomplishes nothing .
