Many families in Lakewood, home to a large population of school-age children, are restricted by school policies requiring parents to pledge that their homes will not contain internet access, smartphones, or other smart devices. This restriction prevents these families from viewing or participating in online meetings.
Compounding the issue, many residents adhere to religious guidelines established by leading rabbis, who advocate refraining from internet-enabled devices, such as smartphones, tablets, or computers. These residents often rely on “kosher phones,” which are stripped of internet access and basic functions like email. As a result, they cannot watch or engage with virtual meetings.“When the township holds meetings exclusively online, it’s as if they’ve locked the door to the majority of the population,” said one frustrated resident. “We’re left without any way to participate in decisions that impact our lives.”

Spin and Deflection at Township Meeting

A New year and its same old same old in Lakewood township as the people are shut our by the governing body high taxes traffic unaffordable homes, after 20 years you would think the committee would try something new by appointing a new mayor but the 3 republicans on the 5 seat committee voter for the Democrat mayor for another term.

The way it was done in year 2025 is even more shocking as they swore themselves in over a computer screen electing a Mayor for New Jerseys 4th largest city.

The heat was on again on the committee by residents and media for refusing to return to in person meetings like every town city govt in the country. As

The big elephant in the room

The mayor and committee are petrified to face Lakewood residents face to face Ina public meeting and be criticized for what they have done to Lakewood while they still hold on to power. The other committee members joined the mayor with excuses that they know are not the reason.

The mayor and deputy mayor tried conflating remote online services available and people working remotely post covid, with the reason why they don't have to hold in person public meetings. Ccomiteeman Akerman also spoke about how people changed post covid but non of that answered why they won't have in person meetings.

The excuses given do not add up as  Menashe Miller went on a long ramble about how post covid  everything is done remotely and online and more township servicers are available online without having people show up to town hall.
What he may not understand is that one has nothing to do with the other. It does not justify disrespecting Lakewood residents by not showing up to a meeting in person like every town in New Jersey and governing body in the country is doing. The lies are just not sticking as they know deep down they are wrong.

During the public comment section a reporter for the APP said they have data showing how township meetings have been cut in half from 55 minutes in person to 28 minutes online. The public comment has gone way down via the remote option as some meetings have no comments  at all compared to pre covid

Another resident called out the committee for denying human interaction in a public forum  with a give and take conversation and not adhering to the oath of office. The mayor  responded that out of a town of 150,000 maybe only 300 people have signed a petition for a return to in person meetings, therefore they feel no obligation to return to town hall.

Committean Lichtenstein responded that he would love to have a one on one conversation face to face with a resident who called in. Yet he did no offer to do so in public at a meeting where there's accountability.

This committee gave themselves a $20,000 raise last year while raising taxes on poor Lakewood residents. People are paying a few hundred dollars more on their monthly mortgage payments. In a few weeks the committee will vote again on salaries, based on previous year's expect them to give themselves another raise.

- Be Aware! The Wild West of frum  Podcasts
Article in this weeks Yated Neeman

...Well, then, when we listen to someone on a podcast, whether it is for entertainment purposes or informational purposes, we should really first determine if they are a person whose dei’os, whose opinions, can be deemed kosher on a hashkafic level.Sadly, podcasting in the frum world is like the Wild West. There are harmless podcasts, harmful podcasts, and insidious podcasts that, under the mask of frumkeit, bring all kinds of opinions that are not, to say the least, in the mainstream of frum opinion. Others interview entertainers who are not at all role models for any frum Jew, but because some of these entertainers may have some redeeming values, they are suddenly considered fine role models and interviewed about their opinions on everything from politics to what is wrong with chinuch (!).
I have been told by numerous mechanchim, especially those involved in teen chinuch, that they are now dealing with many young people who are hashkafically very confused. These teens listen to podcasts on frum platforms or download them into their players and are unwittingly imbibing all kinds of alien values under the mask of a “frum podcast.”

In truth, podcasts should be treated no differently than newspapers. When one picks up this newspaper, they know more or less what they are getting hashkafically, and in the event that we, on occasion, err, we get grief from the best, most discerning readership in Klal Yisroel. So too, there must be some kind of standard when it comes to podcasts.

Zos Chanuka Segulah for Parnassah

The last day of Chanukah known as Zos chanukah there are special tefillos to recite and segulos for parnasah on זאת חנוכה. The sefer נטעי גבריאל brings down a מנהג ספרדים to recite 308 times the פסוק of  "שובו שברו לנו מעט אוכל"  as a Segulah for Parnasah on Zos Chanukah the word שוב is Begematria 308.

A old minhag in Yerushalayim to daven for rain-

Zos Chanukah: the Gra (O.C. 670) brings Chazal that the mishkun was finished on 25 kislev but the dedication was pushed off till Nissan because that was the month Yitzchuk avinu was born, but kislev was paid back with the chanuka of the chashmonuim.
Yitzchuk avinu was moser nefesh by the Akeida and the Rambam says that the makom akeida is the makom mizbayach! The dedication of the mishkan and Bais hamikdush needed total mesiras nefesh! When the chashmonuim were moser nefesh for the avodas hamikdush then kislev was zoche to have its own Chanukah!
