- R' Aaron Lang  Lakewod attorney and BMG alumnus currently litigating on behalf of lakewood residents to fix the funding formula. "We need visionary leadership. We need to innovate and lead. What we do here has significance elsewhere. On the Lakewood BOE yearly budget: " $220M budget is wasted, run by mediocre administrators without vision, b/c they protect $20M for mosdos. Why sacrifice $200M for $20M? Get both! (Same w/elections, b/c of favors, we overlook visionless government) A true innovator can turn the $220M into $1B worth of public weal! First thing I will do when I'm in the saddle is to make Lakewood beautiful. My generation did it for all of America, we can do it for Lakewood. 2. See hakdamah to mesilas yisharim about constantly reviewing basics

    3. The problem is not quoting known Pesukim. The problem is when you think a Pasuk in chumash is a shlug up on the Inyan of Segulos which every Bar Bei Rav Dchad Yoima knows that it's brought down in all generations in the Torah starting from Gemaros straight down to Achronim
If it's not Karaus then it's just simply foolish.

    5. Not of any relevance. From Karaus to quoting Rambams out of context reminds of our MoDox OO "brothers".

  6. I appreciate the support but I think that my Tweets have been combined somewhat incoherently. In particular, the Tweet about litter in town is an example of how, with the right leadership, the district can transform the entire town. A small investment can have geometrically more benefits even outside of the school setting.

Robert Moses, who also had a degree in Government, knew how to read laws (and to write the laws) and how to make the most efficient use of limited funding. He built the modern city, with all its roads and bridges (read parkways), just with his authority as Parks Commissioner (and Tri-Borough).

By thinking out-of-the-box, so far, I have discovered a source in the regulations for providing free education to high school age kids (in accord with BMG parameters) without them having to step foot on the public school campus, and still count them for state funding. This would not violate the Establishment Clause under my reading of Zelman v. Simmons-Harris, 536 U.S. 639 (2002). (The instruction will be directed to the student at home or in the place of his choice, sectarian school included). Even more, we can set up a test case to overcome, or essentially overturn, the Lemon v Kurtzman case that banned publically paid teachers in a sectarian school. Lemmon entanglement, direct instruction provided to the school rather than the child, hence without Zelman choice, can be avoided simply with cell phone technology (recording the lesson).

We can utilize our faculty and equipment to find solutions for the people of Lakewood, integrate LHS students' jobs with their schoolwork to provide a higher quality twenty-first century workforce and a meaningful education. We can provide jobs and actively recruit members of the community enabling them to bring new skills to the mosdos, after work in the district, in the afternoon. We can open our technology rooms, perhaps even find a way to use the culinary teaching facility, and open our trades and office skills classrooms at night for yungerleit and their wives. It's too bad our state-of-the-art auto shop was closed in 2012, even after I came out publicly saying we should open it at night for adults. (I found a provision in federal regulations that allow separate gender classes.) There is no reason why the interests of the mosdos can't be protected by visionary leadership when the people of Lakewood need so much more.

    1. Robert Moses was indeed a visionary.
But the unintended consequences of his bulldozer method of planning a city are still being felt by minorities all over Brooklyn. He destroyed their neighborhoods and negated years of advances by the African-American community to better their lot.
