Simchas Torah Letter and Guidelines from the Igud Harabonim for Corona

See full letter below. The rabbonim call on the kehillos to adopt a different approach and implement  real change this year.

Guidelines call for shorter hakafos of 5 minutes each and toned down, everyone participating should wear a mask, women children should also mask, making one wide spread circle will help or everyone should dance in their seats. For Kol Hanearim, chosson Torah/Breishis people must not crowd together. a Kiddush can be made if it is short and not a social event. Each rav will determine more precise guidelines for their kehilos (antibodies etc..)

As an aside, הרב אלי' דוב וואכטפויגל שליט"א said that the רבנים should say over בשמו that it is a 'vildkeit' to have yeshivishe hakafos and he has cancelled hakafos in his Yeshiva. He said the z'chus hatorah protects limmud hatorah and tefilla but not yeshivishe hakafos.

  1. What was the point of tzu'shteling that rama, maybe in his time it took 10 minutes for each hakafa on hoshana rabba?

  2. Ah so I was wrong
I thought they would wait till 4pm this afternoon, they released it 2 hours earlier
Plenty of time to get word out and have local Rabbanim decide what to do

    1. The rabbonim dont communicate online via websites they do it the old fashion way with phone calls and emails. All rabbonim were notified over the past few days.

      You are 100% correct.
Three is NO REASON that the so called Vaad L’inyonei Hana”l could not have sent this letter out 2 days ago. They need a responsible secretary, not some yeshivisha guy who thinks he’s “it.”

    3. Ah so I stand corrected, I also just heard this from my Rav. He was contacted by them via phone earlier, which makes a lot more sense than releasing a letter on the internet a few hours before YT.
A Gut Yom Tov to all and may this be the last YT in a world filled of corona craziness.

    1. Have you ever been to a Yeshiva or a Shul filled with Yeahivalite on ST? Have you ever been to a different Shul on ST?
They are generally very very different types of experiences. Both in terms of the length and the intensity in the dancing.

  4. What is the science in limiting hakafos to 5 minutes? What is the science in limiting kiddush to 5 minutes?

    2. Simple, ab. Covid 19 has a 5 minute delay before going infectious. It also only targets people dancing in circles and not when you dance in your seat. It also targets those doing yeshivishe style hakafos, but not chassidishe style.

And if you all just sit around the table eating kugel during the kiddush you will live to 120, but if you dare shmooz while eating you are doomed

    1. This is a lie. Stop trying to make Machlokes because you are bored.

    2. He never said that he said it. All he did was tell them to say it over in his name.

  6. Why is doing it hoshana rabba style any better? Why is standing neck to neck for 7 minutes slowly trotting around the BM shouting out "hoshana" any safer??
