AUDIO: Cuomo Holds Conference Call With Jewish Leaders Sunday Night They Apologized for the Rhetoric

"Please remember that when you see some, pardon me, idiots doing silly things, don’t paint us with that brush. We are really beating up on them, we are doing everything in our power to stop these people. At the same time, you know, one thing you mentioned earlier [that] you were sued without anybody talking to you – that’s one thing I feel is unfair. We wanted to meet with you. We wanted to speak with you. We didn’t get the time".

Hamodia: New York Governor Andrew Cuomo a held conference call with Jewish leaders Sunday night. Several askanim from Borough Park declined to be on the call, after the tensions that arose from the October 6th call, including the fact that the governor muted them during the call, and only talk several prearranged questions. However, on this October 18th call,  it appeared that questioners were able to talk freely, and one person involved described the conference to Hamodia as much more “conciliatory.”

Rabbi Yaakov Bender: This is Yaakov Bender from Far Rockaway, New York.

  1. Those that were allowed to speak were preselected and it was not an open conversation. I just hope the things were said just for the purpose of accomplishing the result but were not an accurate feelings. If they were, then these leaders don't represent the mainstream.
They also didn't discuss the real issues. The uneven enforcement in Jewish areas and the terror the community is under. All the governor promised was to look at the numbers. It supposedly always was about the numbers. Cuomo is a liar and no friend of the community. The "success" has gotten to his head and he's gotten a king complex.

  2. Did they mention the 10,000 seniors murdered in nursing homes after the policy was given forcing covid patients into nursing homes. Is it all about gelt abd gelt.

Did they call him out for targeting our community because we support the president.

    1. No they were too busy putting out the fires burning bridges which took 75 years to build which were set by a few attention grabbing hotheads.

    2. " they were too busy putting out the fires"
      Kidding?
Probably providing fuel as they have for decades

    3. Those "bridges" that they built accomplished nothing, but a few more days of protesting in Boro Park would have accomplished a lot more. Cuomo was desperate to stop the protests because if it would have gone national it would have destroyed his image.

    1. Worse than what Yaakov Avinu said to Eisav?
There is a mesora of how to deal with those in power. Protesting in the street, calling him names and daring him to do something about it on national media is not part of that mesora. Its also dumb, childish and counter productive.

Yaakov Avinu also prepared for war, something that these askonim apparently dont have the courage to undertake. Sadly the only one with that courage is Heshy

They should have taken a lesson from the BLM movement where mass protests worked. The only thing Cuomo didnt ban was mass protests.

    3. Heshy has courage? Is that what it is?

I am sure that there are some who believe we should take a lesson, not from Orchos Tzdaikim and Chovos Halevavos, not Chazal and Gedolei Yisroel, but BLM. We should all strive to be like them. SOunds like a fabulous idea

    5. The results of the Chanifa:

INSPECTORS FLOOD BORO PARK AND FLATBUSH: Every Yeshiva Being Visited Today

Initial reports state that inspectors are asking to enter the buildings, and if denied, they are given a summons for a court appearance in a few months along with a $15,000 fine.

Highly credible sources tell YWN that the inspectors were provided a list from the State that has the names and addresses of every single Yeshiva, and were hoping to visit each one today.

  5. Reach out to Amazon and have them stop selling Cuomos book.
It is despicable that he can make money off of a book when he destroyed so much. Need to hit him in his pocketbook. Maybe that will help.

  6. Weather you approve of how Tishler operates the attack on him by the establishment was a dirty move. Cuomo's action had nothing to do with Tishler. Cuomo took a political gamble to scapegoat the Jews for his mishandling of the nursing home deaths that resulted in 20.000 dead. He is trying to save himself politically and deflected his attention and bad policies on the Jewish community who he knows he can buy off with a few dollars.
How right he was as they kissed up to him last night while he continued to selectively crack down on the orthodox community while other areas in NY had even higher numbers.

Shame on all those who care more for a few dollars than for their fellow yidden!!

    1. Tischler is a dangerous nuisance, and he must be stopped. His actions are pure churban, no chance of helping anyone.

How to deal with Cuomo is a separate issue.

And Cuomo's personal middos are hardly the point. He isn't our Mashgiach, he is the Poretz with whom we need to deal

    2. "he is the Poretz "?!
Who kept him in Office till now?!

    3. So 12:18 has no solution, yet he's sure that Tischler is bad

I say you and your ilk are the problem. Tischler acted because no one else did.

  7. Most people would rather see a lot of chanifa and get tinokos shel bais rabon learning without fear even 1 day or 1 hour earlier . Those that just want to fight obviously are not machshiv the learning as much as their desire to beat Cuomo .

Reb Akiva was not Machnif the Romans. Precisely because he was Machshiv Torah THATS WHY HE DEFIED THEM.

It worked for BLM. They defied the rules and now they can protest whenever and however they want. Cuomo didnt budge an inch and the Chanifa didnt help anything other than giving even more power to king kuomo

  10. The Governor 'calls "black," and they say, "it is good": the [Prime Minister]calls "white," and they say "it is better." It is always the voice of a god. Never since the time of Herod has there been such slavish adulation.'

  11. When are we going to remember that Hashem is in control it’s not Cuomo nor Deblasio when we do Teshuva then we will have schools shuls etc. BLM came to wake us up that we should remember Hashem is in charge. In the Megillah the only reason they were saved was because they went straight to Hashem and davened and did Teshuvah. Rav eliyahu Brog has spelled out what chatayim brought this. It’s his shmues on Parshas Devorim and this past week Breishis he mentions it. It’s all on kol haloshon

  12. From a commenter on another site:

This is what Happens when Jews Fell into BLASIO’s and CUOMO’s COVID-PCR-TESTING TRAP.

Other Groups: Blacks, Hispanics, Muslims, Asians, BLM- DID NOT FALL INTO THIS TRAP.

Even though Blacks and Hispanics have Twice the Hospitalizations, all Over NYC, Every Borough.

That’s why Blacks, Hispanics, Muslims, Asians, BLM, Are Enjoying The Freedom in NYC , and JEWS ARE BEING PERSECUTED, RACIALLY TARGETED, RACIAL DISCRIMINATION.

But Y’all just keep Testing and Reporting to Herr Blasio and Herr Cuomo.
