The exact length of this ceasefire is still being negotiated so the final number may be slightly higher or lower. The gradual release of a few dozen LIVE hostages (women and men). There are still gaps regarding the number of the hostages to be released. Israel wants a higher number for this initial period.

- Assad in his first statement to Russian agency Tass after the fall of his regime:

My departure from Syria was unplanned and did not occur as they claimed in the last hours of the fighting. I remained in Damascus, fulfilling my duties until the early hours of Sunday. When the terrorist forces entered Damascus, I moved to Latakia in coordination with the Russians to supervise the fighting.
Upon arrival at the Russian base that morning, it became clear that our forces had withdrawn entirely and that the last military positions had fallen. Russia requested that the base organize an immediate evacuation. This occurred the day after the fall of Damascus, following the collapse of the military positions and the resulting paralysis of all remaining state institutions.

  1. This has always been the "unspoken crisis"
50 years ago, Aish started up with its "In two generations there will only be religious Jews because theyr'e having lots of children ande all the non-religious and the few kids they have are marrying out and their children are disappearing from Judaism." At the time, the religious population was 10-15% of the total.
Here we are two generations later and the religious population is - wait for it - 10-15%.
Now, we know assimilation is wiping out the non-religious slowly. We know they are intermarrying at over 70% and their children do not know anything about Judaism (having a Chanukah bush doesn't count). Yet we are still 10-15%? There can only be one explanation - the OTD rate is huge.
But this is Agudah. Remember 25 years ago that their biggest crisis was the Jewish blogosphere giving voices to the survivors of abuse and the OTD's, both things they wish they could silence forever.

    2. What in the world are you smoking?
Where do you get these numbers from?
The religious community in US and EY has grown 10 fold from 50 years ago. Just count the yeshivos from then and today, the size of BMG Satmar Bobov.
The total number of Jews (including secular) has stayed the same. Many of who consider themselves Jewish are probably not halachicly Jewish

    3. Huh? Do you deny that the frum population today is WAY bigger than what it was 50 years ago? I have no idea where you picked up those percentages from but to the extent they are true the explanation is simple. Back then, in most places, when you walked into a frum shul everyone there was elderly. The Reform and conservtive synagogues were where most of their descendants under 55 went to pray. Today the Reform and conservtive synagogues have few people younger than 55 showing up. The frum shuls are packed with youth and always growing kein yirbu.

    4. Survivors of abuse generally don't marry, and if they do, don't have children.

Since 1949, charedi (and Mizrachi) parties were 10-12-15% of the electorate/Knesset. Slight variation, but pretty stable (Shas would get more when they started, but that's dwindled down, sfardim learned they're too corrupt ).

In America (and alte heim Eastern Europe), a bar mitzvah boy was told that's his first and last Aliyah till his aufruf, and nothing again till he's in his fifties, provided he gives regular donations.2

    5. All of those Charedi children you see, are all a figment of your imagination. Because they make the Agudah look good. And that is impossible.

    6. People trust 'data' more than their own eyes. Every person knows how many kids in his class went OTD. Can anyone say the number was more than 2%?

There must be something wrong with these numbers. Our lying eyes tell us that.

  2. I don’t believe that both today and in 1974 the same percentage of American Jews were frum. Even if it were true that would be because (1)In 1974 you had an enormous amount of elderly Jews who weren’t really frum but considered themselves to be due to a combination of ignorance, attendance at Orthodox Shuls, and not identifying with secular Jewish movements. Those types aren’t really around anymore (2) In 1974 when someone said they were Jewish, they were almost certainly halachically Jewish. Today a very high percent of secular Jews younger than 50 aren’t halachically Jewish.
