Ever since Yaakov Avinu gave Esav gifts (valued at hundreds of thousands of dollars by my estimate), Yidden have been giving gifts to Goyim for thousands of years. Obviously we give them to those who have power. Considering that Trump is the leading contender for the Republican nomination and is polling ahead of Biden, it makes sense to give him nice, expensive gifts. Would you rather we gave him a gold golf ball, or a pride flag? A crown of Torah seems reasonable and shows our respect and gratitude to someone who may very well be our next president.
