ReplyDeleteHow about bringing chickens to lay beforehand?
ReplyDeleteWould be cheaper in the log run, and help the chicken business.
Of course, Tnuvah objects. Loss of profits
None of the frum sites seem to mention the coronavirus death of Professor Helmreich Z'L,the author of "The World of the Yeshiva" and other sociological books.
ReplyDeleteI was told by relatives of his that the way he got interviews and cooperation from all the Roshey Yeshiva despite the initial refusal of some was that Rav Moshe Sherer told them that in the end a sociological study of Yeshivos will be done anyway, the author will certainly be super hostile, hw will distort the words of the few Rosey Yeshiva who do talk to him, take disgruntled former bochurim and act as if they represent all bochurim and the world ofthe Yeshiva etc, but Professor Helmreich is the one socialgist we can trust.Help him become the official socialgist writing about Yeshivas in the secular world"
Even the most uninterested in being interviewed Rosey Yeshiva agreed after Reb Moshe Sherer told them the above.
Rav Shmuel Berenbaum however was apparently still uncertain. Professor Helmreich wrote that Rav Shmuel Berenbaum insisted on giving him a farher before the interview. Apparently he felt that Professor Helmreich was a Ben Torah because he agreed to go ahead with the interview afterward
His gadlus was that most people never heard of him. Had he been the typical "expert" on Orthodox Jewish life that the secular media knew they could always rely on for his "insights" attributing sinister motives to the frum world everyone would know who he was.
DeleteOf course the secular media doesn't mention that he was a frum .Not even the articles that do mention that among his secular works he also had studies of Jewish interest. Because "distinguished professor of sociology" (the description the secular media does give him)and "Orthodox Jew" can't possibly describe the same person in the secular media.
