  3. ok. I think its safe to stop the quarantine.... All seems to be normal so why are we continuing like this???

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The only reason things are back to “normal” is because of social distancing, Coronavirus did not disappear and there is no vaccine/cure yet. We are continuing like this because if we reopen hastily things will get very bad very quickly again.

      Delete
    2. So you're saying we should be holed up until there's a vaccine/cure? Seriously??

      Delete
    3. No, just saying that the reason we’re continuing like this is that the metziut has not changed, and until there’s a smart plan to reopen slowly and safely we should sit tight. There have been enough deaths rl”t

    4. Is it really the quarantine that caused the virus to subside? Quarantine was in place before March 15, peak should have been April 1 based on 2 week max incubation. Yet the peak did not occur till 2 weeks after.

      Delete
    5. Quarantine won't help much more. Most likely the reason for the decline is that most people came in contact with this type of Corona virus and either had some sort of affect or no affect. At this point the quarantine may just help the (probably small percentage) people that have not come in contact, but either way the quarantine can't be forever so they will anyways come in contact on the future. At this point the quarantine is mostly useless

    1. Yes! We need a governor who will risk our lives for non political purposes! We should ignore experts and stop the single thing that has been proven to slow down this plague.

Sheesh! There should be a minimum IQ to be able to vote.

    2. The quarantine started March 14th. The incubation period is from 3 days to 2 weeks max. So if the lockdown worked, the virus should have peaked the first week of April, not the 2nd week.

So there is no evidence the quarantine worked, it is very possible that this virus, like every virus, passed through naturally.

    1. BMG has not received the money yet. It is also very heavy restricted. Many talmidim will not be eligible.

      Delete
    2. Can you please explain about restricted? It’s pretty clear that 3,000,000 should go to the students.... please specify any restrictions on the money allocated for the students... yungerleit ( and others) are In desperate need of funds...

      Delete
    3. The press release specifies that money be allocated for the students. What exactly are the restrictions that you are talking about? The senators released the money . Why are you saying bmg did not received it yet??? It rightfully should be for the yungerleit!!!

Each institution is required to distribute half of their award—the portion being released first—directly to students by providing emergency financial aid grants to help cover costs associated with the disruption of campus operations due to COVID-19, including course materials, food, health care, technology, housing, and other eligible costs.

    4. Alot of Other yeshivos in Lakewood receivesd money as well are they giving tuition breaks

      Delete
    5. Before you start kvetching about the yungerleit receiving the money, you should read up a little on the Cares act. BMG has not yet received the money because as you can imagine, there is a very arduous and not yet clear cut process for applying for and receiving the money. They will get the money but have not yet received it. As far as the restrictions mentioned, there is a lot of conflicting and not clear guidance from the Department of Education as to which students will be eligible and what the requirements are for distributing the funds. While it sounds nice to say that $3,000,000 is going to students, it does not mean that everyone is eligible and not clear what the money is meant for. It isn’t meant just as a straight up grant to students no strings attached. I’m sure Yeshiva is working on figuring it all out.

  11. Why are cops sitting in front of empty shuls that are closed for more than. Month. Are they hoping to catch someone and put out another press release about Lakewood? Some of those that were charged were for violating social distancing were actually keeping to the rules yet the put out the stories to the media and put Lakewood not just in a bad light but in danger of all the hate spewed on social media.

Where are the askanim who always brag about their relationship with law enforcement.

    1. after this is all over there is going to be alot to answer up to the community on what has transpired from the police politicians and the askanim. The politicians were not heard from not a peep. but alot ogf the bad press started with mesira against backyards weddings that were legal at the time but once authorities came they busted it up and the press releses brought national attention while people all over NJ were just as guilty.

      Delete
    2. They yelled about porch minyanim porch minyanim porch minyanim nothing else.

      Delete
    3. The politicians in this town never have to answer for anything. The Vaad will come out with a letter backing them, the sheep will vote for them, while the majority do not vote at all.

      Delete
    4. And we’ll ALL be classed as “bad apples”!!

      Delete
  12. Not sure why everyone thinks the was mesira going on.

Rise up ocean county was asking it readers to drive around Lakewood and report and "suspicious" activity. They went so far to report a doctors office....

For those who have access to social media from local non-jews, there were plenty of pics from scenes that they witnessed.

While things seem to have calmed down in our community BH, remember that we do not live in isolation. We had an early bump in this virus due to Purim, other communities, such as the Hispanic and seniors are still being hit.

I think we all know the trouble the callous disregard for our neighbors has caused us....

    2. according to r' chaim (who get to decide what constitutes mesirah) reporting Corona gatherings is not a problem.

    3. I wonder if those same mosrim were the ones who were upset with one of the hosts because he blocked plans for a high density development in the area.

    4. I don’t understand why some people feel that in every instance where the authorities were notified about Covid-related violationsp, it was “mesirah. On the contrary, many of these people were doing a big mitzvah by taking proper action to stop the spread of this deadly and highly contagious disease and thereby SAVING LIVES. There are unfortunately some real idiots out there that could care less about all the warnings and act in purely selfish ways in direct violation of the Rabbonim’s directive, the Doctor’s orders, and the dina demalchusa. Those individuals need to be stopped and deserve to get penalized so they learn their lesson not to continue endangering the rest of the populace with sakanas nefashos.

      Delete
    5. Ummm, before you take actions that are mafkir your dam (mesira) into your hand, be sure that you are indeed correct and not just rushing to judgement based upon a supposed psak from someone who insists that you don't rely on his psak.

In this case you were wrong and the negative consequences are obvious to all. No tov would give you a heter! And as is clear in halacha, the first step before mesira is to speak to the people if possible. You never spoke to them!

    6. Just like mesirah on a Shul is not mesirah right?

  13. “Getting Lakewood to a place where the religious, community and public health leaders were all on the same page wasn’t an easy task, Kotler said. It required hours of conference calls, with physicians and community leaders trying to convince rabbis to shut the synagogues down.

“We know you’ve been praying for thousands of years,” Kotler recalled saying. “Now is not the time. God does not want you in the synagogues now. He wants you home with your family. We’re grateful the people have really listened — and the rabbis have really listened.”
These are the exact words from the Asbury park press .
Our Own Askonim said this about our Rabbonim and Our Rosh Yeshiva .

      Delete
    2. There is something very wrong with what he said. It is condescending and makes Rabbonim sound like idiots. The purpose of the proffesionals is to provide facts and data, it is up to the Rabbonim to decide what G-d wants based on that.

that being said, I am glad Aaron finally admitted that he is not a religious leader. Although he will likely change his tune when it benefits him

  15. Its remarkable the social distancing the lakewood as a community did as soon as it became serious. A community who lives on socializing davening 3 times a day going to shul going to learn in botei medrash going to simchos every night visiting family relatives over one hundred thousand people changed their daily routine and stayed in their homes all communal life shut down. There is also shabbos when no one goes out no driving no shopping anywhere there was a 3 day yom tov. We should have gotton an award, instead the media with the help of some unzere that kept on mentioning that lakewood has a social distancing problem. This fanned the flames and no matter how restrained and restricted we became considering the busiest shopping season of the year, The constant robo calls and nonn stop letters publicized everyday screamed out that lakewood still does not have its act together. Instead of keeping quiet it changed the narrative and lakewood became a national story with Murphy talking aboout it every day in his press conference. A vort that was done with social distancing with immidiate family was called an ailegal engagement party, a bar mitzva with only family members became a public news story with twisted and untruthful facts. but they did not stop they had to go all out to stop the porch minyanim which were legal at all cost and kept lakewood again in the news that we are breaking the rules.
Oh and than there Aiva toobubt boruch hashem it came and went away very quickly.

    1. Nobody honestly believes that were going to wipe out the virus. You're not going to keep everyone at home until the virus disappears, because it is not going to disappear. We need to start accepting the reality of the virus and resume our lives. Anyone who is at risk should continue to quarantine until a vaccine is developed, and the rest of us can try to get some normalcy in their lives
