Snow Storm Updates Sunday January 25

Weather tonight low 23° Freezing rain this evening then expect periods of light snow. Chance of precip 90%.

- Sone suggest waiting until tomorrow to shovel. If ice forms overnight, it will sit on top of the snow rather than bonding to the surface, making cleanup much easier.

10:30 pm Roads are plowed initially however  there's still a sheet of ice on the  surface with cars skidding as Temps fall below freezing.

8:30 pm freezing rain glazing car windows and icy conditions on pavements. Car doors are stuck due to the ice

- 6:30 pm close to 10 inches including sleet fell in  the Lakewood area. Things will remain slippery for a few more hours. The storm should begin to taper off between 8 PM and midnight. A few lingering snow showers and cleanup efforts will continue into tomorrow per meteorologist report.

4:30 pm sleeting with more snow in the forecast 

- 3:30 pm sleet coming down 9 inches so far
The Lakewood school district has canceled  school for tomorrow Monday Jan 26.
The LSTA will hold a conference call tomorrow morning 4:45 am to decide about transportation for  private schools  for tomorrow 

Jersey Central Power & Light reports about 6,050 customers without power out of 1.1 million statewide. Most of those, 5,980, are in Ocean County, with just one outage reported in Monmouth County

- The Perelson - Levy wedding scheduled for tonight has been pushed up to this afternoon at Kesser Moshe Yehuda 

2:30pm  Newark Airport received 8 inches by 1pm
- NJ Gov Sherrill: As conditions worsen across the state, we urge New Jerseyans to stay off the roads, stay home, and stay safe. ALL State offices, including the Motor Vehicle Commission, to be closed on Monday, January 26, due to the ongoing winter storm.
MVC customers with a canceled appointment may return January 27th through February 10th.

1:45 pm sleet changing over to freezing rain

1:00 PM Update:
A mix of sleet and snow is falling, with more than 7 inches accumulated so far. Many retail stores are closed as road conditions continue to deteriorate. Snow is packed down and turning to ice, causing cars to skid. Strong winds are blowing snow into mounds, with basement steps becoming fully covered

- NJ State offices will be CLOSED tomorrow, January 26, due to the winter storm.

11:30am close to 5 inches has fallen already
Several crashes reported along the GSP
Ovet 1,100 flights  canceled at Newark airport. Nearly 10K flights grounded nationally

- Gourmet Glatt closing all locations today at 4pm due to weather

- NWS 9:00am : Snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour occurring across the area this morning

- Gov Sherrill: As snow continues to fall across New Jersey, I urge residents to be safe. Please stay home and off the roads. If you experience a power outage, report it to your utility immediately.

-Boys elementary schools in Lakewood cancel cheder today for all grades
Mesivtas are open 
Supermarkets are open

-Roads have not been plowed yet

    Do you feel so powerful and mature telling people how to behave in snow storms?

    1. It's the price you pay for following them..just leave the groups.
      Unfortunately snow storms empower people and they feel important telling you to stay off the road while they drive around in their 4 wheel drive

    Nonsense. Many streets in area of 12th and Princeton were not plowed
