  Overnight, in a spectacular lightning raid, a third world despot was snatched from his 

native country, and brought to the United States for trial.

A rouge Maduro קמא morphed into accused Maduro בתרא .A defendant in court, his 

country now free of suppression they endured for years.

At once, this brings to mind another incursion into a sovereign state, five months ago, in 

an attempt to neutralize Hamas’ hierarchy, which ultimately failed.

The President hailed the special ops that executed the South American operation.

“They did an incredible job… And I was told by real military people there’s no other country on earth that can do such a maneuver.”

 Mr. Trump makes you wonder – just prior to his reelection, an assassin’s bullet grazed his 

ear, but he survived. The President thanked the Creator, but any such recognition was glaringly 

absent this time.

History doesn’t just repeat itself – it rhymes. 

At a Mossad’s award ceremony this Chanukah, Prime Minister Netanyahu told the 

assemblage that in Sayeret Matkal, or the General reconnaissance unit he served in, the motto was, “Who dares wins”.

This is patently false. As seen through the Torah’s prism, which is the blueprint of creation, no human can shape destiny, or exact an outcome. There’s accountability for your actions, too.

This week’s Parsha turns this warped mantra on its head. As Al-mighty assures, the land 

of Goshen will not be afflicted with Makas Orov, or wild animals. The possuk states, “Thus, you 

will know I am Hashem in midst of the land.” [Shmos 9:18]

Ramban puts this timeless message in context:   שליט ומשגיח – the One Above rules over, and charts the course of all events in the world.

fact: there’s no such thing as a random event – the Ribono Shel Olam micromanages daily life for us all.

The human condition has its foibles – when you encounter individuals in top physical

accomplishment to mere human endeavor. It becomes difficult to get oneself to acknowledge 

there is a Borei Olam who has the final say.

But if Hashem wills it so, F-35’s can attack a building in Doha Quatar and Hamas chieftains 

can escape harm.
