- A fast-spreading mutation of influenza A(H3N2), known as subclade K, is fueling a severe flu season across the U.S., including New Jersey, where the first pediatric flu death has been reported. So far this season, the CDC estimates 180,000 hospitalizations and 7,400 deaths from the flu.

-  A 40-year-old New Jersey man with a history of rock-throwing incidents was arrested after allegedly throwing a rock through a school bus window in Teaneck, seriously injuring an 8-year-old Jewish girl. The rock caused a skull fracture requiring surgery, though she is expected to recover. Prosecutors have filed multiple charges but have not announced hate-crime charges, saying the motive is still under investigation.

- A $1.2 billion New York healthcare fraud scandal has been uncovered—ten times larger than the Minnesota case—according to a report by Fox News’ Sean Hannity.

-NYT: President Trump has been briefed in recent days on new options for military strikes in Iran as he considers following through on his threat to attack the country for cracking down on protesters, according to multiple U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

 A senior Israeli official: For the first time since the outbreak of the protests, there are real signs that the events in Iran are beginning to challenge the very stability of the regime. According to him, "It is still not a critical mass, and the regime is not on the verge of collapse – but the protest curve is clearly and continuously rising, at a pace we have not seen in previous weeks

Minnesota update: Thousands protested in Minneapolis today after a fatal ICE shooting, calling for accountability and an end to ICE operations. Demonstrations were mostly peaceful, with some arrests, as tensions grow between state leaders and federal authorities.

-Trump proposed a 10% cap on credit card interest rates starting Jan. 20, 2026. It’s not law yet  as needs congress to vote and could lower borrowing costs, though banks warn it might reduce credit or rewards.

  1. 10% interest is only a few points over prime rate The only way banks can make money on credit cards is if they crack down on fraud and non-payment which means that credit cards will be much harder to it obtain

    1. That certainly makes sense to do. Hopefully we won't be seeing any more ads about "are you drowning in credit card debt...." People will buy what they can afford instead of לֹוֶה רָשָׁע וְלֹא יְשַׁלֵּם

      Banks pay 0.25% to 1-2%.

      it card loans are highly profitable to banks.

      in fact, they sell off the loans so as to lend out more.
