Whether It's, say; Bais Aharon, Bais Sholom, Yoshon, or any Kollel or Makom Torah across America, seasoned yeshivaleit are a savvy, discerning bunch.
For them, critical thinking and the quest for unvarnished truth nuance the study of Shas and Shulchan Aruch.
These are successful businessmen of Torah, דער בעסטע סחורה
Should they get stuck while striving to comprehend. a sugya or topic, one will cite the difficulty, reverse and make a k-turn, and continue on.
The study halls reverberate with vibrancy. The noise decibel of rischa d'Oraisa — spirited exchange of Torah ideas, enables creativity and stifles stagnation.
These lomdim have honed their method, embracing the mesorah of limud, the olam hayeshivos’ hallmark — Volozhin.
Learning means shvitzing over a Rashi, a Rashba, Magid Mishneh, or Tur Bais Yosef in Shulchan Aruch. Witness this week's portion: "שתהיו עמלים בתורה"!
Dirshu is a fine program for baalei batim, but their logo seems to be of mistaken proportion. The Olam haTorah will not disenfranchise itself to a different style — but rather, the way we were mekabel from gedolei Yisrael.
The passion is certainly there in this letter. Now wondering if he/she really means it
ReplyDeleteYes I definitely agree the logo is a hijack of oilam hatorah, however don’t “fool” yourself in regard to the mesorah and way of learning, as the way they learned in volozhin resembles a lot more what dirshu does, learning and chazering the masechta gemora rashi tosfos tens of times during one winter zman
ReplyDelete100% agree. As if anyone has any shaychos to Volozhin
DeleteThe term olam hatorah is very general and is not owned by anyone there are bnei Torah and Baalei Batim. You can have an olam hatorah in Eretz Yisrael that learns bekius and the olam hatorah in America that are lomdus based
ReplyDeleteIt is not confined to a mehalach but to a way of life
There is the real deal & there are the mimics
DeleteThe n"m is how much sweat come out of the person
ReplyDeleteThere was never in the history of klal Yisroel a system where top bnei yeshiva learned 6 blatt a zman. In volozhyin they knew the entire mesechtas with rishonim and poskim in every zman
ReplyDeleteAlthough I agree with some of the sentiment expressed here, I don't think this criticism belongs on the internet.
ReplyDeleteBut we must condemn, in public, the new style of concerts and entertainment that Dirshu introduced to us. We were free of this style of entertainment, and it is quite detrimental to our development. As we develop a taste for this style of being one of an electrified crowd, singing together as one, we lose our individuality, our personal connection with our spiritual side, and our taste for self-improvement in these areas. We become victims of group-think and we cannot stand up against evil in our midst. The worst aveiros, including chilul Shabbos, retzicha, gezeila, bizayon talmid chacham, and more, become muttar for the purpose of this group belief.
My warnings in a nutshell.Well stated.
DeleteIf you really want to get real, this idea of "chezkas shmaata "et al Where you don't just work hard to understand What is difficult for you to understand but rather you get a specific outline Or curriculum which is where the idea came from...what to look at and What to skip, So it's not even learning 6 blatt it's jumping around and learning what your rosh chabura decided you should learn, Thats very much dirshu in slow motion..... Skip here jump there as if parts of the blatt we're never meant to be learnt properly Or that we are only meant to learn the gishmak parts..... In the yeshivos of old of old they would have been disgusted with this attitude.... And in the long run don't you think that learning parts here and parts there actually gives you a clarity???.
ReplyDeleteIs this post made by a Lubavitcher who hates Rav Shach?
ReplyDeleteObviously the letter writer has no idea what the mesorah was. The learning 6 blatt a zman is NOT mesora. Rav Aron ZTl moved along and learned fast b'iyun. Dirshu is greatr as there are bechinus. Maybe there should be bechinus in BMG??
ReplyDeleteA few lines of tosfos here a paragraph of Rosh there, a half of a paragraph of pnei yehoshua there. This is our mesorah from Sinai? R aharon rav schach reb shmuel All promoted this?
ReplyDeleteDirshu has a great concert and affordable prices will iyh attend
ReplyDeleteFor a letter saying "Kvetch" does not exist in their Talmudic lexicon maybe you should tone down the criticism of Dirshu advertisements . You don't want to join Dirshu because you feel other approaches to learning are better for you OK learn Biyun only. How do you think the Roshey Yeshiva of Volzhin would have reacted to a similar promotion to join the olam haTorah and be part of the local cheva mishnoyis, chevra ein yaakov, chevra chaya odom ? Even the chevra shas back then probably learned less biyun in most places than Dirshu does.
ReplyDeleteDoes thedirshue conserts give food?
ReplyDeleteNO THE IDEA HERE WE SHOULD ALL GO AND PLEDGE OUR ALLEGIANCE TO THE NEW LEADER HARAV MOSHE HILLE HIRSCH SHLIT"A THAT NOW CARRIES THE OLAM HATORAH.
