- Trump: I look forward to meeting the new Prime Minister of Canada, Mark Carney. I very much want to work with him, but cannot understand one simple TRUTH — Why is America subsidizing Canada by $200 Billion Dollars a year, in addition to giving them FREE Military Protection, and many other things? We don’t need their Cars, we don’t need their Energy, we don’t need their Lumber, we don’t need ANYTHING they have, other than their friendship, which hopefully we will always maintain. They, on the other hand, need EVERYTHING from us! The Prime Minister will be arriving shortly and that will be, most likely, my only question of consequence.

The remark was made to prove a point that you don't have to be nispoel from gedolim if they can say a shtikle Torah but don't know the next line of the gemara.

Without the United States, the War would have been won by other Countries, and what a different World it would be. Therefore, I am hereby declaring a National Holiday in celebration of the Victories of World War I, where the Armistice was signed on November 11, 1918, and World War II, where the Victory date was May 8, 1945. We will not be closing the Country for these two very important Holidays, November 11 and May 8, World War I and World War II, because we already have too many Holidays in America — There are not enough days left in the year. We were Workers then, and we are Workers now! Documentation to follow. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!
nothing any Gadol said against eretz hakodesh sounded like any sort of set up from conservative movement. where are they getting this from?
ReplyDeleteThis was based on a article in kikar shabbat website that was posted and plastered on the trashy Websites advertising for EH the disgust headline on YWN said the Lakewood anti eretz hakodesh campaign was spearheaded by the conservative movement
DeleteShockingly R Hershel shechter repeated this and ties it to the
Event in BMG when Rav Aaron Feldman and Rav Malkiel lotler spoke.
You can't make this stuff up. Bemechilas kevodo Rav Shechter should know it had nothing to do with it and has no connection
Conservatives were helping the cause - So while it may not have been the event specifically but if they are pushing the anti WZO movement it is going to "Help" any part of the anti wzo taking place. Meaning, if all you had anti WZO was maamad in BMG without the rest of the anti WZO noise going on - it would not be much of a story etc.
ReplyDeleteWho is right, I dont know. But it is 100% true that based on his shiurim (you can listen to them), Rabbi Shechter seems to have a yad on kol torah kulah and our Rosh yeshivas I think would acknowledge that they themselves generally do not. I realize that his hashkofos are based on YU hashkofos and Rabbi Solvetchick but the fact I wrote happens to be true
ReplyDeleteMy computer has a bigger yad in kol hatorah kulah than Rav Shachter, especially when I connect Otzar Hachochma.
DeleteFirst he disparages all gedolim of today, saying that they don't really know that much and therefore can't give a deah on currrent events. Then he goes on to repeat the most childish conspiracy theory I have ever heard, that R' Malkiel and R' Ahron Feldman were really just working for the Conservatives. And R' Dov Landau too? What about R' Moshe Hillel and the entire Moetzes, also just working for the Conservatives?
But he saw it on the internet!
Really, YU, this is the best you got? This is your Godol?
It seems that you don't know Rabbi Shachter at all. But your willingness to disparage one of the greatest Talmidei Chachamim of America is troubling. Especially to defend whom?
DeleteI'm not sure what kind of yad he has in anything, to be honest
DeleteWhat I do know is that I saw a פסק r' HS wrote - nothing controversial - to a rov in Monsey (Rav M B L), who sent him a תשובה back shredding r' HS's פסק with בקיאות and סברא - BIG TIME
I find R Schachter's disparaging of all anti EH gedolim a lot more troubling
DeleteHe's a lightweight and very naive. Sad.
DeleteR' Hershel Schechter is a Gaon olam and posek in daled chelkei Shulchan Aruch. He is as great a gadol in learning, if not much greater, than anyone in America, and being a posek, I'll accept his daas Torah over others.
DeleteThe article headline was a disgraceful and despicable smear, a dog whistle that appears to malign the Lakewood Roshei Yeshiva, the Bnei HaYeshiva, and the broader Lakewood tzibbur. It is shameful that the Yeshiva World News site published such a misleading headline—completely devoid of any substantiated connection to Lakewood. That a Rosh Yeshiva from YU would go so far as to cite that baseless article as fact, in what appears to be a subtle but targeted attack on the Lakewood Yeshiva, its Roshei Yeshiva, and the Baltimore Rosh Yeshiva, is simply astonishing.
ReplyDeleteLet's leave What others not from our community say. We need to look inwards. isn't it true that the movers and shakers, the opinion formers in our community are not our best in Torah. It might be okay for the modern Orthodox to follow the popular culture and claim that Torah scholars are only for Torah but we don't stop talking about daas torah all day all night all the time and when real Torah scholars voiced their opinion they get shut down and when the powerful and popular say an opinion we follow. Let's be real for a moment whose opinion trumps who? When a therapist disagrees with a rabbi who do we follow when a child psychologist disagrees with a rabbi who do we follow?
DeleteWhat if you have a Rabbi arguing with a Talmid chacham, whom do you follow then?
DeleteThis was not an attack on the Lakewood Yeshiva, merely on one of its Roshei Yeshiva. Facts matter.
DeleteAn attack on one is an attack on all
DeleteVery shallow to quote a dirty website to attack a rosh yeshiva of the biggest makomTorah
The asifa was an official function of the yeshiva, during sefer, all the roshie yeshivos took achrayus. It was an attack on bmg. Shame on him.
DeleteDid the yungeleit have a say in the matter? They didn't agree, they aren't under attack.
DeleteIn fact, speak to yungeleit and hear how upset they are about the idea of disturbing a Yeshiva for 'shitos'.
All the yungelite I spoke were perfectly fine with the asifa. Sorry you got stuck speaking to the bitter 1% that kvetch and complain about everything.
DeleteIt was a good question and Rabbi Willig gave a very good answer I think I'm going to start listening to him more. Similar to Rabbi Schacter's answer, the Steipler also wrote not to accept any yesod said or written by a Rosh Yeshiva if it seems to contradicts a Gemora. Even if that Rosh Yeshiva was from the pervious generation
ReplyDeleteWhere does the Steipler write this? I happen to agree with it, I'm just curious for the exact source.
DeleteOne of the first two volumes of Kreeina Digrisa. I no longer remember the number of the letter
DeleteKaryana D'Igresa Vol 1 letter 159; in the new edition it's vol 2 letter 577.
DeleteMore fake news about some Oola brand granola bars under OU- HiSachdis sold in Lakewood as pareve on the outer box but milchdik on the inner wrappers turns out there are 2 varieties and someone mixed it up and had a milk one in a parve box
ReplyDeleteYou would think the watsapp guy would know the difference between CRC hisachdis and CRC Chicago instead Chcago got blamed while the hashgacha is CRC hisachdis and no one did anything wrong regardless besides the guys who made a tumult
DeleteJust another day on watsapp
Just embarrassing so many mess ups in one story and reputations messed
DeleteHow many frum businesses destroyed in one fake news post?
DeleteWhy are the organizations advertising on such a platform
Why do respectable people follow it
we in lakewood ir hakodesh the Yerushalayim of America, the headquarters of Yiddishkeit in America have OUR gedolim who said that WZO is kefira/ avoda zarah and to stay away from it. YU is not nogea to us whatsoever, not attacking them but they do not tell us what to do as we have OUR daas Torah.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! 11:53 the proud follower and promoter of heilige Daas Torah !
DeleteNow be a man 11:53, and go ask your Gedolim what they hold about leaving comments on hock news sites on the treife internet
Bored fellow. There's more excitement out there
DeleteBefore you get so full of yourself let's go through this a bit slower OUR also known as «unzereh" is a disease. Lakewood is a real nice place but it is not ir hakodesh And Not the headquarters of anything Not that anywhere else is. We follow the torah or at least try, we don't need OUR we are happy to accept the truth from anyone. And if we do have anything of OUR it does not take the precedence over the truth. It doesn't feel all that fluffy and warm but that's the truth it's worthwhile to get in touch with reality
DeleteYU plaints re:WZO would & should be given more consideration, if they wouldn't have sold out so scandalously just recently to similar deviants leading Reform, flip sides of the same coin
ReplyDeleteWow איך נפלו גיבורים,REITS once had top league תלמידי חכמים on staff, and now they've been reduced to this.על אלה אני בוכיה
ReplyDeleteTop or not,My grandfather walked out of there 87 yrs ago.
DeleteHe would say: even then half the students were tzaddikim half were galochim
It seems that min hashamayim it was decreed that the Meron festivities must be toned down. Year after year, for all kinds of reasons, they have had to be canceled or curtailed.
ReplyDeleteSeems the zionists know the powers and are trying to fight it and minimize it till to stop it
DeleteNeither covid, nor the rockets from the north, were zionist plots. The 45 dead had nothing to do with zionists.
DeleteYou need to stop allowing the zionists to live rent-free in your head.
Nothing like hearing the toevia club yeshiva people who felt the word “orthodox” sounds too extreme without adding modern to it accuse rdov landau of being bought by conservatives. When they look at their alumni roster I wonder if they ever think to themselves “gee I wonder why half the people here are barely orthodox”. I’m sure it’s because they’ve been taught by the only “true” gedolim. It’s obvious to any thinking human that the interest conservatives have in publicizing anti WZO opinions does not preclude gedolim from having genuine anti WZO opinions. (As was r elyashivs long standing opinion). I am a rank am Haaretz but I have absolutely no problem identifying this level of hypocrisy when I see it.
ReplyDeleteJust to be fair he did not say anyone who was bought but conned by the conservative. He is so absolutely wrong since even if this story about the conservative actually is not a invention by EH for propaganda purposes It definitely has no bearing on anybody's opinion since this debate has been going on for years 6 years at least before the previous election and this so-called story happened a few weeks ago so how could it have any bearing on anybody's opinion.
ReplyDeleteas a chassidsher yungerman in bp, i watched the whole thing because of your link, there was much to gain and notice , both are giants yes the shtickel YU comes up but plenty good , as far as the comment re wzo, rav shechters point was that minimizing the conservative influence is exactly the point of voting ,and thats why the conservative infiltrated and paid for ads , not that it made any dif. and many in unzere camp who know how the yeshiva velt works wondered who is driving this who is fueling this engine ( of course the gedolims opinions has nothing to do w conservative gelt but the energy in the anti campaign was high not like anything weve seen recently think when was the last time there were so many asifos and ads regarding a klal issue? it takes manpower... pushing...etc..
ReplyDeleteEhh most of those against EH jumped on the bandwagon just now for this election
