Israel At War Sunday May 11

Israel at war day 583

 - Israeli officials expect the release of Israeli-American hostage Idan Alexander on Monday, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

-US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff recently told families of hostages held in Gaza that he disagrees with Israel’s approach to the war in the Strip, and believes reaching a new ceasefire and hostage release deal is the correct next step to take, According to Channel 12, Witkoff told the families that the US “wants to return the hostages, but Israel is not ready to end the war.”

- Trump: I am happy to announce that Edan Alexander, an American citizen who has been held hostage since October 2023, is coming home to his family. I am grateful to all those involved in making this monumental news happen. This was a step taken in good faith towards the United States and the efforts of the mediators — Qatar and Egypt — to put an end to this very brutal war and return ALL living hostages and remains to their loved ones. Hopefully this is the first of those final steps necessary to end this brutal conflict. I look very much forward to that day of celebration!

 - AP: Indirect talks between the US and Hams began 5 days ago - Idan Alexander's release is a gesture of goodwill towards the US president in order to gain greater compensation

- The bodies of 4 kidnapped American citizens held by Hams that potentially stand to be released: Omer Neutra, Itai Chen, Judy Weinstein-Hagi and her husband Gadi Hagi.

- Hamas has officialy announced that it will be releasing Israeli-American hostage Idan Alexander

- Israeli source tells i24 News that the Israeli ultimatum to Hams is still in effect - if it does not agree to an outline that includes the release of 10 hostages [Witkoff Outline], Israel will begin Operation "Gideon's Chariots".

- Axios is reporting that Israel will temporarily stop airstrikes and drone flights over Gaza until Idan is released to allow Hams to bring him out and for the IDF to bring him out of Gaza

- Netanyahu: "Symbolic release" of hostage IDF soldier Idan Alexander possible

- IDF Spokesman in Arabic: "Urgent warning to all those in the seaports controlled by the terrorist Houthi regime – Ras Issa Port, Al-Hodeidah Port

- Senior Hamas official told Al Jazeera, "For the past few days, direct negotiations have been taking place between Hamas and the US administration regarding a ceasefire in Gaza and the entry of aid." According to Hams sources, the American side is focused on trying to reach a partial agreement, while the Hams leadership demands that the agreement include clear and explicit wording with American and personal guarantees from President Trump to ensure progress to the second phase without Israel violating the agreements.

- Prime Minister Netanyahu at the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee: "I heard in the media that Trump and I are 'separating.' Trump and I speak every few days; he himself said that we see eye to eye. I don't think you're going to hear about a Palestinian state; the talk of a rift - it's for political reasons."

- NBC report: Relations between PM Netanyahu and President Trump have become tense in the past two weeks, amid disagreements over the Iran strike and renewed fighting in Gaza. Last week, Minister Ron Dermer conveyed the prime minister's disappointment with Trump's statement that it had not yet been decided whether Iran would be able to enrich uranium in the future, while Trump was frustrated by Netanyahu's decision to renew the war in Gaza, which appears to contradict Trump's plan to rebuild the Gaza Strip. Trump said in closed-door talks that Israel's new military move in Gaza is a waste because it will only make it more difficult to rebuild the Strip.
