Two staff members at the Israeli Embassy were shot at close range this evening while attending a Jewish event at the Capitol Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C.
- Suspect was detained on scene while yelling free Palestine
According to D.C. police, the shooting suspect who killed two Israeli embassy staff in DC tonight is in custody.
"The suspect chanted free free Palestine while in custody."
The suspect is 30-year-year Elias Rodriguez of Chicago.
Ambassador Leiter: The couple murdered tonight were about to get engaged. He bought her a ring to give it to her next week in Jerusalem. We are strong people. Israelis are strong, and Americans are strong. Together, we will stand, and together, we will overcome. I spoke with the US President, who told me that the administration will do everything to fight anti-Semitism.

US Homeland Secretary of State Kristi Noem identifies both of those killed in the shooting outside the Jewish Museum in Washington as staffers at the Israeli Embassy.
“We are actively investigating and working to get more information to share. Please pray for the families of the victims,” she writes on X. “We will bring this depraved perpetrator to justice.”
Eyewitness Yoni Kalin tells FOX5 about the capture of the shooter in Washington: "I saw someone running, the security guard let him in, apparently he thought he was a victim. He was covered in rain and was in shock. Some people gave him water. He asked them to call the police. 10 minutes later the police arrived and he said 'I did it', said he was unarmed, took a red keffiyeh out of his pocket and started shouting 'Free Palestine, Intifada revolution'"
