  1. Car Show should be deleted for many reasons.
The main one is the pritzus issue.
I haven’t been there for decades but I made the mistake of going there and at every car there is a “person” there barely dressed.
And from what I hear it is still that way only they are less dressed.
Not a place for a Jew Jew let alone Ben Torah.
    Thank you.

    1. You think they're less of a person because they're not dressed acc to ur standards?

    2. No prizus issue anymore, because now it's men dressed and deformed to look like women.

    4. "of a person because they're not dressed acc to ur standard"

He correctly was calling attention to a problem.Chill

      Delete
    5. No reason to chill. Once you start dehumanizing people—for whatever reason—you're heading down a dangerous path . .

      Delete
    6. So warning people against pritzus = dehumanizing people. Interesting. How did you reach that conclusion?

Btw, if someone intentionally dresses themselves to show off their body parts to others, they have dehumanized themselves. It is not the person who points it out that has dehumanized them.

      Delete
    7. Excuse me! 1) Who gave you the right to claim that not wanting to be tempted to look at a person's body parts is dehumanizing? Who gave you that right??

      2) Why do the companies spend good money paying people to do this? Simple. They know that people won't analyze and properly think through a purchase. This will increase their sales due to people being dehumanized - being 'robbed'
of their ability to analyze and think.

      3) When a person indecently exposes themselves, I should most definitely have the good sense not go anywhere near that. Precisely because they are a human being. Precisely because I am a human being.

      Delete
    8. Saying someone is quote unquote a person is dehumanizing in the sense of saying they're less than human, calling someone out for behavior which doesn't befit upstanding humans is something else entirely . .

Rebitzen David wrote a dissertation on maharatz chayes in Columbia entitled
The Dual Role of Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Chajes: Traditionalist and Maskil, here (PDF), if you're kvetching that she attended college you should that her esteemed father not only attended university of berlin himself he even obtained together with r sf mendlovitz a charter from nys to open a college, r aharon shut it down
Heres a famous joke that used to make the rounds
a chaim berliner and a bjj girl are on a date, when they pass a homeless man on the street. She says "reb.david told me when i say she lo asanee goy i should not have him in mind, but rather i should think of the president of a bank with a brooks brothers suit , a expensive tie, and a lexus" a few minutes later they pass a homeless woman and the boy says"rabbi shechter told me when i say she lo asanee isha i should not have her in mind, but rather i should have rebitzen david in mind"

    2. It is getting to be ridiculous how pretty much every site that mentions Rebbeitzen David has to have so many people running to write about her dissertation. Rav Ahron never shut down non existent college programs. RSFM & RYH shelved the idea due to his opposition to it.

      Delete
    3. Distinction without a difference

      Delete
    4. What's more ridiculous is how all the frum websites wont report it as if it wasn't an important part of her life or a major accomplishment, its censorship by omission is what it is

      Delete
    5. Very, very rarely - if ever- do you see mention of what someone's college dissertation was in an article about their death. Even in secular obituaries. When someone is important enough to warrant a newspaper obituary no one thinks of a college dissertation written over fifty years ago as an important part of her life or a major accomplishment in relation to whatever else they did. Even in non-Jewish society.

      Delete
    6. Did she broadcast it as central to her identity in any way??
Did she care as a avant garde orthofeminist or need ideologically to flaunt it?
How rarely did she ever make mention of it?!

Thus the charedi outlets who barely gave it are actually hewing to her path better than those who must rub it in everyone's face

      Delete
    7. What makes it an important part of her life? What about her 8th grade writeup on topic x? What about all of her high school assignments on topics y, z and everything else? Her college didn't define her. Not one bit.

The same with Rav Hutner. Period.

What is eating at you that you need to focus on this one little part of her life, instead of what her life mission was who she was as a person; who she was an over Hashem? How she channeled her unique abilities into serving Hashem in an area that needed her? The sacrifices she made for it.

      Delete
    8. First, dr usually gives it away. Second, oftentimes the dissertation is the base of the persons first published work. Third, noones specifically trying to bury it. Fourth, as an important frum woman it is all the more surprising and worthy of note.

    9. Rebbetzin David was one of the foremost figures in Chinuch Habanos for 2 generations and her influence lives on in countless Torahdike homes today. It's sad to see that on her passing the only comments here are about her dissertation and jokes that have made the rounds.

      Delete
    10. Oh, of course all the comments everywhere with links to Rebbetzin David's college thesis are solely motivated by worrying about her honor. What was I thinking? Will the people leaving them be learning mishnoyis and saying kaddish for her being that she died without any children to do so for her or do they hold they were yotzey giving her kovod and being meilitz yosher for her just by links to her college thesis at every mention of her death that allows coments?

    11. Actually R Hutner too once considered himself a talmid muvhak of R Kook (I believe his was the only picture he had in his sukkah for many years) and in his later years veered to the right and disassociated with that part of his life (the pic came off the wall)

      Delete
    12. Be that as it may ,it is fair to note that the frum girls'system has degenerated to where it would be uncommon to find nowadays girls capable of publishing such a dissertation

And media outlets like the Hamodia & many Rabbis laud the degeneration with enthusiasm as if it's ideal

      Delete
    13. Why is it now the time to mention the picture???? Your assumption about why he took it off is 100% wrong. He always considered himself a talmid, though he always disagreed with some of his opinions.

He made clear why he took it off. It was precisely due to the narrow-minded approach and understanding you have of Rav Kook. Rav Kook was a lot more than his opinions about the state of Israel. He spent his life deeply immersed in Torah v'avodah before 1905 (when his FIL passed away and the first steps towards his position began).

Rav Hutner was clear as to why took the picture down.

      Delete
    14. Actually, I would make the case that since our chinuch system as it stands right now tacitly and even openly discourages girls' intellectualism, girls who are more intellectually inclined are being pushed out into secular education pursuits.

      Delete
    15. He "veered" because of influences?
He was a simple little fellow?
Or rather far more like it a part of a larger direction he was guiding people

      Delete
    16. And lirc he had zero opinions re:the state of Israel, as he passed away in 1935.
      Before even the Peel Commission.

And he so happens to have been so disenchanted by then with mizrachi Zionism, he was in the process of trying to make a new flagship movement called degel yerushalayim

    20. Mr. Cohen, you are embarrassing yourself. How is dying before the State was established a problem to having opinions about it? It wasn't a new idea, born in 1948, the plans were there well before.

And his problem with Mizrachi was its parochialism, not its lack of Yiddishkeit.

    21. Missed the boat.What's new?
.There was little conception of anything similar to the state then.
      There was a drive for a sort of broad Commonwealth [on both sides of the Jordan];

  14. Idk what the story was last night, but car accidents are a real problem.
Most times, when I see someone driving really aggressively, like overtaking on the shoulder or in a turning lane, pushing ahead at a four-way stop sign, weaving in and out of lanes, a cursory look tells me that it is not a member of our community. It is an outsider who is frustrated at our traffic and cannot control himself .But he should be a lesson to all of us to be more careful when we drive, driving with the speed limit (not below or above), not stopping on the road against the rules (dropping off passengers, peering at street signs, trying to figure out the route, talking on a phone), and following the rules of stop signs, traffic lights and other interpersonal regulations.

    2. I am a consumer just like you. Stores need to make money and have a markup. I don't know the specifics of lettuce, but lettuce goes bad. Who eats the cost when they have extra?

My point of shopping at frum stores is - you should have a Moreh Derech and not chumra shop. One chumra may be a violating another assah.

  19. Kosher supermarkets on average mark up 30-40% on non perishable items or items that the distributor will credit if it goes bad. Produce is marked up %100. Eggs are usually sold at cost or just above cost. Others selling eggs for cheaper don't go through regular distribution channels and get deals directly from the source. Meats and fish are usually concessions and the supermarket gets roughly 15% from the sale price. The concession owner usually marks up fish around 200% on fresh and 100% on frozen. meat at 100-150% depending on how much waste they're anticipating and item availability.

Most non Jewish products, like cereals get sold through a third party distribution which is already marked up by the time the grocery gets it. That's why these items come out cheaper at non Jewish stores.

Ah. It’s a pain in the neck. So you go to the supermarket to make things easier for yourself then compare store prices. Ah. That’s also a pain. Then pay the price at the first store you go to and stop complaining that your not getting a bargain.
