Israel Updates Wed Oct 22

Day 747

-Report: Israel WAR in Lebanon might restart:
A Western source in Beirut told Kan News this evening (Wednesday) that the feeling in Lebanon these days is that the chance of a confrontation with Israel is high, and that it cannot be prevented.

- The International Court of Justice ruled that Israel did not present evidence that "a significant portion of UNRWA employees are Hams operatives." The court also noted that, according to its obligations to act under international law, Israel must "allow and assist efforts regarding the UN's humanitarian aid in the Palestinian territories"

- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will travel to Israel on Wednesday, the State Department says Rubio will be in Israel until Saturday, before then visiting Malaysia, Japan and South Korea.

- Netanyahu said to tell Vance he’s open to advancing Gaza plan, wary of Turkish and PA roles

- Israeli official: "We dont oppose the plan presented this week by jared kushner
, under which reconstruction of the Gaza Strip would begin in areas under Israeli control — until Hams agrees to disarm and an international force enters, on the contrary. We have no problem with rebuilding the areas under our control. Construction and reconstruction are what will push Hams out,” an Israeli official said

-Right-wing lawmakers voted on Wednesday to pass, in its preliminary reading, a bill that would apply Israeli sovereignty to all West Bank settlements — as well as another, more limited bill to annex a major city-settlement — despite opposition from Netanyahu and most of his Likud party to announcing such a move at this time.
The bills must still pass three additional votes in the plenum and will now be referred to the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee for further consideration. It is highly unlikely that Netanyahu will allow either of the two bills to pass into law.

-Disagreements occurred in a meeting held yesterday between the head of Egyptian intelligence, General Hassan Rashad, and Israeli senior officials. According to him, the Egyptian security delegation left Israel without solving the participation of the Palestinian Authority in the future of Gaza

- Wall Street Journal: Following Trump's warnings, Hams informed mediators that it will stop carrying out "public executions of rival gang members," after the mediators claimed that such actions could be used as an excuse by Israel to renew fighting
