- Election season and Politicians pose with Rt 9 improvements photo ops: Lakewood officials and New Jersey lawmakers say long-awaited improvements to Route 9 are finally on track, after state transportation leaders unveiled preliminary plans to expand the congested highway through the heart of town from Central Ave to Prospect street. Government shutdown: The Congressional Budget Office estimates that roughly 750,000 federal employees could be furloughed each day of the shutdown, with the total daily cost of their compensation at roughly $400 million.
