Why There are No Bar Mitzvas This Year in Adar Rishon

Wondering Why There Are No Bar Mitzvahs in Adar Rishon This Year? Rabbi Dovid Heber of the Star K explains. When there are 2 months of Adar the Halacha is that a bar Mitzva boy who was born in adar of a regular year celebrates it on Adar Sheini. This year 5782 is a leap year, however 13 years ago in 5769 was not a leap year therefore any child born between the first and 29th of Adar 5769 will become Bar Mitzva on the corresponding day of Adar Sheini. Therefore no one can become bar mitzvah between the 1st and 29th of Adar Rishon because 13 years ago there was no Adar rishon.

  1. How about a boy born on lamid shevat? Seems like a machlokas if he waits till lamid adar rishon . He was born on Rosh chodesh adar of a regular year so his bar mitzvah should be Rosh chodesh adar sheini!!

  4. Riddle: What simcha does Klal Yisroel celebrate this month, but no Skverers?

Answer Nirehspu (written backwards, so not to give away the answer). They do it at age two.

    1. Most unzereh did not do that until the last generation or at most two. Most people lack authentic tradition
