Israel At War Tuesday August 5

Israel at war day 669

- Trump says Israel occupying all of Gaza is “pretty much up to Israel.”

- Trump says he has watched Hamas’s “horrible” video of emaciated Israeli hostage Evyatar David being forced to dig his own grave in the tunnel where he is being held in Gaza. “I think it’s horrible.” “I hope a lot of people do get to see it, as bad as it is because I think it’s a horrible thing,” he said

- Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar says countries that announced plans to recognize a Palestinian state in recent weeks sabotaged a ceasefire deal with Hamas

- Netanyahu met with senior security officials on Tuesday to hammer out Gaza war plans, and reportedly came out in favor of the military taking control of the entire enclave, even if it meant that the remaining hostages could be harmed or executed by Hamas.

- The limited discussion with the Prime Minister has ended. PM Netanyahu is promoting the conquest of the Gaza Strip; the IDF Chief of Staff opposed it and presented the IDF's position. Tomorrow (most likely), there will be a limited cabinet meeting, and after that, an extended cabinet will decide.

- Donald Trump is planning to give a speech in which he proposes the rehabilitation of Gaza under American leadership and with significant US funding — on the condition that Hamas is no longer in power. The rationale: To create public pressure on Hamas from within the Gazan population. The main opponent: Qatar, which supports reconstruction even without Hamas stepping down. - Lebanese Prime Minister: The army will formulate a plan to disarm Hezbollah by the end of the year - the plan will be presented by the end of the month

- Excerpts from the meeting: PM Netanyahu: “We are going to conquer the Gaza Strip.”
IDF Chief of Staff Zamir: “This could endanger hostages.”
PM Netanyahu: “The way we tried so far hasn't worked.”

- Trump toured the White House roof this evening, briefly answering questions from reporters who were asked from a distance. When asked whether he supports PM Netanyahu's intention to occupy Gaza, he did not answer and simply waved his hand.
