As the summer of 2025 begins, the kollel yungeleit of Lakewood and bochurim of BMG are entering their well-deserved bein hazmanim break. This short vacation offers a time to recharge before returning to the shtender for the upcoming Elul Zman.
Of course, limud haTorah continues throughout the community, with many local botei medrashim offering special bein hazmanim programs for bochurim and youngeleit staying local as their wife's are working
Still there's a noticeable shift in pace. During these weeks, Lakewood is often filled with a sense of calm and serenity, as families take time to relax or head out on vacation.
While in the past the streets would noticeably quiet down and traffic would ease during this time, the recent growth of surrounding neighborhoods and nearby towns means that the peaceful, empty roads may soon become a thing of the past.
Thank you hefkervelt for approving this Bain hazmanim. Just one question why in the lita did they not need this very important Bain hazmanim? This is a new phenomenon. Rav shach and the Steipler were very upset when it started. As a matter of fact, most gedolim in lita took this break during ellul
ReplyDeleteThere certainly was Bain hazmanim in Lita during the summer. Some Bochurim opted to remain in Yeshiva but the concept existed
DeleteMost yeshivot had students coming in and out all the time
DeleteThey had no concept of a "zman" also known as "semester".
Students went home for Sukkot and Pesach cause the RYs didn't want to pay for feeding higher priced Pesach food.
Absolutely untrue!
DeleteRav Shach and the Steipler were not against Bein Hazmanim at all.
Just not true.
Anon 3:59 - your insight into the motivations of the Rashei Yeshivot matches your understanding of yeshivot in general. Hint - Yeshivat maharat is not a yeshiva.
DeleteVery yeshivish article. Facts are not backed up. Traffic is light all over as many have different scedueles due to day camps and people on vacation.
ReplyDeleteHe should become an expert historian.
DeleteWe r in Lakewood NJ , not Lita. Lita in targum means curse, it sure is!! Lol
ReplyDeleteNew targum -- Lita means Lakewood
Delete"...short vacation"?? What's short about it? Which job gives a longer one??!
ReplyDeleteIn Lita, most women didn’t work out of the house like our Neshei Kollel who work 9-5. The girls were homeschooled. Now all the kids are out of the house from 8:30-4:30. At least they have 2 weeks to finally bond as a couple/family what they did in Lita every night once the sun went down…
ReplyDeleteHaha!
DeleteIn Lita the women didn't work outside of the house?! Where did you pick up that nonsense?
Men didn't work 9-5 either, but women worked hard, and outside the house. Women ran the marketplaces, women did the manufacturing. The idea of the man going to work while the woman stays home is a post war phenomenon of the United States.
The better girls weren't homeschooled.
DeleteThere was Yavne in various forms, there was General Zionist that even many religious girls attended.
In Lita the Kollel wives did not have 9-5 jobs, sending their babies all over town to babysitters and schools. At least we are given two weeks to finally learn how to bond as a family unit without the daily stressors of modern day life.
ReplyDeleteWhich job gives a longer vacation? The ones that give off every Sunday and legal holiday. That one!
