ReplyDeleteBTW We proved in court that the loans are not providing a thorough and efficient education and that Lakewood students are not better off. If they were, then there would be no cause of action in court, until of course, the state forces Lakewood to ante up. Then all future school funding for tomorrow's kids will go to paying back the state loans for today's kids. At that point, even the BOE will have to admit that the kids were harmed.
It is folly for the BOE to argue that the public schools have “more opportunities at the high school and county vocational program than ever before with more than 250 students participating. . . We have seen growth in certain select areas and are outperforming the charter school in Lakewood.” All our grandchildren's tax dollars will be used to pay back for the education of our children today.
ReplyDeleteIf we were doing better, then we would not have a cause of action, and the proverbial can would be kicked down the road for our children to grapple with.
The law in NJ is that funding has to be certain, predictable and non-discretionary. State funding of $80 million, which is the amount we need, is not the same as encumbering the people of Lakewood with $100 million (deduct the $20 million we pay back each year). TYou cannot plan, remediate or build when you don't know if your doors will stay open each year. Moreover, all those new programs come from the tens of millions of federal dollars brought into town by our 50,000 student population. Federal funding also does not count in school funding litigation. So all the BOE can accomplish by agreeing with the state and claiming that education has improved, when it has not, is to continue this cycle of borrowing from future generations of students and drive Lakewood into financial collapse.
This is the BOE you elected, Lakewood!
