Matzav report -A protest that took place on Shabbos in Lakewood, NJ over the death of George Floyd involved no serious incidents, vandalism or looting, boruch Hashem. Approximately 400 people took place in the march down Clifton Avenue. The organizers included a high school teacher who wrote online that there will no change until “bloodshed” arises and allegedly posted anti-Semitic messages on Facebook. That teacher, Marquis Oliver, is a 2013 graduate of Lakewood High School who claims that his online page was hacked and that he never wrote those messages.
The protest was held along Clifton Avenue, beginning at 9th Street and Clifton Avenue and ending at Lakewood Town Square. A number of frum Lakewood residents were seen joining in the march down Clifton Avenue, shoulder to shoulder with Black Lives Matter activists.
One storeowner in the down town vicinity told Matzav.com that he did find an anti-Semitic message on his property and that there was clearly an attempt to enter his establishment, though, he said, it wasn’t serious.
The local community was unsure of how the protest would play out, knowing about the violent protests across America this past week. Storeowners removed all cash, valuables and inventory from their stores and boarded up their storefronts.
“We thank the Lakewood Police Department for being out there and doing a great job maintaining order,” a storeowner told Matzav.com. “The department, led by Police Chief Greg Meyer, are exemplary public servants and we are deeply grateful for all they do and especially for their presence this weekend.”
Great, now all the Anti-Askan fearmongers can head back to their caves.

ReplyDeleteThank god the protest was totally peaceful. The obvious massive police presence was a deterrent to any outside agitators intent on joining the march. This all would have never happened unless many people showed their concern. We should not have to demand protection. There were credible threats from outsiders and unfortunately from the organizer himself. Those who think tha the rabble rousers were simply trying to scare everyone are wrong. The reason there was no violence was because we goes everyone to take the threats seriously. We did not sit back and decide to give out cookies and hope for the best. We accomplished what we wanted. To prevent any violence or property damage.

ReplyDeleteThe reason why there was no Violance was because Herschel Hershkowitz raided the alarm at the Begining of the week when no one was paying attention..which got the Business owners and Residents of Lakewood to get the Police and Askanim to take this very real threat of Violance and Looting seriously..they than had meetings with the protest organizers..once word got out that there would be Very heavy Police presence with Swat and dogs and Sheriffs and all the downtown stores boarded up..al the trouble makers realized there will not be no "Good Time" and so they stayed away

One might begin to argue there is such a thing as "pro Palestine", when Farrakhan linked Ilhan Omar / Linda Sarsour / Rashida Tlaib will have a routine of decrying Arab Muslim suffering when it's not in context of Israel (who has been facing existential threat ever since) but suffering when by Arab Muslim entities. One would then hear about a real en-masse massacre. Such as hundreds of thousands in Syria, current example. And if they begin to do anything along the line, then no lip service please. But with that same "passion" as in fake "symparhy" played at the 'other' case.
The absenty reason is clear. Self explanatory. Because pro Palestine is a cover for anti Israel and often anti ALL Jews.
