Submitted regarding banquet hall ordinance
Excuse me Mr. Mayor, why would you tell the residents that they should speak at the planning board meeting when this ordinance gets reviewed? Surely you know that the planning board does not allow a public comment portion for proposed ordinance reviews. They only let the public voice their concerns on land development applications. The last time the public tried communicating their opinions at an ordinance review, the Board attorney did not allow them to do so. He told them that they should instead express themselves during the committee's public meeting. So, here's the problem Mr. Mayor: You tell us to talk to them, and they tell us to talk to you. This way what you accomplish is that the one hundred thousand township residents (which are not school & banquet hall owners) will have their concerns ignored through this politician-style game you’re playing. And by the time this gets back to you for the second reading, you will again ignore the residents - as you did earlier tonight when you refused to read the several non-repetitious comments which your constituents spent their precious time writing to you - and you will place blame on the planning board's "recommendation" - which did not allow for consideration of the public's comment.
The Board will of course blame the committeemen as the actual decision makers that voted to adopt this crazy insufficient-parking-for-banquet-halls ordinance into being and attempt to wash their own hands of fault. When we as residents see this blame game and a shirking of responsibility by our elected government officials it makes us angry with your job performance. Remember that. Because we certainly will
Please fix the color on this page. All the words are greyed-out.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that until we have a solid candidate running who is willing to take on the mundane responsibilities of running a township while truly listening to the average residents, as opposed to just making a lot of noise, these committeemen will remain in office, whether or not you and I vote for them.
ReplyDeleteNo elected official gets intimidated by threats to remember their wrongdoings at election time because we, the sheeple, keep voting them in time and time again. Let's if we can finally do it this time! Let's see if we can show our elected and appointed officials that we are finally taking control of the town they ruined. Come on! Let's finally put up a viable candidate who cares about ALL citizens of this town and then we can once and for all vote them out!!
ReplyDeleteCHS allows a higher income once you are on the program, but there is a cut off for that too.
ReplyDeleteThey should have town hall meetings like normal elections
ReplyDeleteAs far as I can tell, the average resident has no problem with the ordinance. It makes it easier to have simcha halls in Lakewood for which there is a big need. Have you tried booking a hall in Lakewood lately?
ReplyDeleteIt also brings an additional income to the school, lowering tuition which I assume the average Lakewooder appreciates.
The schools are largely located in industrial areas or school zones so the neighbor issues aren't really a problem.
Keep in mind that this is in response to a litigation being brought against a school by a business who's inconvenience by the neighboring hall was negligible and was mostly out of bitterness of Lakewood being taken over by Jews
The schools that are 'largely located' in industrial zones are not the problem. It is those that are not located in these zones that are the problem.
DeleteHave you tried attending a simcha lately at a hall without sufficient parking?
DeleteThis comment reeks of indifference and uncaring.
DeleteJB is obviously a Rosh Mosed. In case you didn't know its not a popular title these days.
DeleteKeep raking in the bucks while you tell everyone how lishem shamyim you are..
Kaminetz is located in a residential zone and there’s a big machloikes going on. The Simcha Hall does not belong there.
DeleteThe average resident DOES have a problem with this Ordinance. The ridiculously low number of proposed parking spots will wreak havoc on the neighborhoods around the simcha halls. Just drive by some of these halls. It’s totally nuts what goes on. There is zero excuse to make money off yenem’s cheshbon! There have been certain individuals who call themselves rosh mosdos who have recently starting abusing the whole simcha hall business by lying about their operations so they can get planning board approvals which were it not for their receipt, they wouldn’t have been approved.
DeleteIt’s quite apparent that just like with other industries, there are a few roshei mosdos which are bad apples. They buy a school which was flipped to them from another school investor and then they force some of their their gullible parents to cry to the planning board that the school needs to build 15 investment houses so they can afford to keep the school going. (Never mind that their professionals testified that the school would stay small and only require a handful of buses and the simcha hall would also be a small time operation and the guests would make sure to arrive to the affairs with staggered timing and similar ridiculous bubbe maisehs..)
Of course the profit from all the various business ventures goes straight into the pocket of the particular school owners and no parents tuition is ever discounted. And of course the neighbors will be forced to suffer for years as a direct result of the terrible shtick perpetrated against them.
It’s these very-well-to-do individuals who grab the crown of torah in dishonest ways which need to be ejected from the industry. They only give a black eye to the other fine & ehrliche school operators.
But aside from all this, the problem with this ordinance is the severe lack of parking. It literally makes no sense whatsoever. Why should the innocent homeowners have their driveway blocked every night and their streets clogged like crazy just so somebody else makes money?!
What kind of world are we living in? What happened to our responsibility of bein adam l’chaveiro? This is NOT how we’re supposed to do things.
Should we also allow each school to open a busy supermarket inside its building so it can make money? Of course not! Well.. this is no different!
Sir there is no garbage pickup on Columbus Day. You must’ve been having a nightmare.
ReplyDeleteAt JB
ReplyDelete"lowering tuition" Dream on!
What a joke! Nobody’s tuition ever got lowered. Schools with no Simcha Halls do not charge more tuition. Instead the private school owners make a killing so they can build themselves beautiful homes and take expensive vacations.
DeletePlus since the banquet business is inside their school building, they get the taxpayers to pick up their trash for free. A non-school banquet facility on the other hand is forced to pay top dollar to have their garbage picked up.
These comments are positively fascinating. I'm not a rosh mossad, but I know a few who are, and shockingly they're not making out like bandits. Rather, they're living very busy, exhausting, and stressful lives trying to keep their schools afloat.
DeleteWhat's really interesting is that the same yokels here who complain about schools who don't accept students and how there simply aren't enough schools in Lakewood, don't stop to think twice before slandering all roshei mosdos on a wholesale basis!
Have they ever tried to solve the insufficient school problem themselves? Surely not.
But that doesn't deter them from badmouthing everyone who has.
And then they wonder why the problem never gets solved!
Hmmmmm - could it have to do with the fact that no one in their right mind would attempt it? I'm certain it does. In fact, I know a certain mechanech who is talented, devoted, and really capable, and who has been entertaining opening a girls school and boys school in Lakewood for a few years. He has some backers willing to help him get started. Why hasn't he taken the plunge? Sadly, it's because he recognizes what a thankless task it is. The המון עם will not stop to appreciate his sacrifice, but will accuse him of trying to soak them for their hard-earned money.
The tragedy is that he is now leaving Lakewood for another city where he will be heading up a large mosad and where his life will be much easier.
So to all those who insist on badmouthing roshei mosdos, you have no one but yourselves to thank for not having a place for your child/grandchild to attend next year.
Of course you'll find another culprit to blame. It'll never be you and your awful middos.
Your complaining is totally irrelevant. It has nothing to do with and in no way justifies the trickery that some of “Rosh Mosdos” use to sneak in huge simcha halls into quiet residential neighborhoods where they turn the lives of ordinary families upside down. Why do you think that good people are suing these shysters. They

No mention of the hardship that simcha halls impose on residents (which is a real problem). Just wholesale slander of roshei mosdos. Foolish thing to do.
Maybe he’s not opening for other reasons such as the vaad forcing him to take everyone who can’t get into any other schools. There may be other reasons as well but you know nothing and are placing the blame on others.
ReplyDeleteHe is correct. I know somebody running a very successful school.Struggling financially but great very sought after mosad that has tremendous demand He doesn't have the emotional strength to expand and open up more parallel classes mostly ,because of the nasty things people say about Roshei Mosdos
DeleteHas a tough choice. 'Tween a rock and a hard place. He can openly distance himself from the other Mosdos
DeleteProblem is they will go out of their way to blackball and twist arms Mafia style
Close but no cigar. I know him well and we've discussed this multiple times. He's not worried about the Vaad because he helps plenty of people and doesn't have an elitist mentality. He's okay with taking kids from lesser homes and with lower abilities. He also understands that the Vaad is out to help people. He has no issue with them.
DeleteWhat he's not okay with is the amount of animosity that he faces on a regular basis from folks who do nothing to solve the problem, but love to sling mud.
Maybe the roshei mosdos should band together and throw out the interlopers who give their industry a bad name by using the yeshiva as a “kardom lachpor bah” to build investment houses so they can get rich (all in the name of torah) while simultaneously destroying nice neighborhoods by squeezing in huge banquet halls which don’t belong there.
DeleteWho would be saying nasty things?
DeleteAs wonderful and altruist as he could be, he should come out from the shadows . Remaining similar to others even if only in optics is his undoing
These two comments are the reason that good people don't do more:

Remember the rule folks - it's always someone else's fault. It's never the kvetchers who write anonymous posts fault. Someone else is always responsible to set things right (and shvitz like crazy to get these people's kids into school who rightfully want no part of them.) We get it - don't worry.
And this is why I support Jackson and other towns making zoning laws against shuls and schools. They are not anti-semites, they're just like all the other commenters on Hefkervelt who don't want their neighborhoods ruined with all the traffic.
ReplyDeleteAnon 8:02,
DeleteYou choose to conflate unrelated issues. The commentors on here are only upset about huge banquet halls being rented on a nightly basis in their quiet residential neighborhoods. Nobody here has a problem with having local shuls in their area which don't bring anywhere near the traffic of a banquet hall. And besides, the crazy ordinance will make it legal for the school to provide almost no parking for the hall, which is totally insane.
People in WG have a problem with local shuls opening and have had that problem for 19 years and counting.
DeleteYou only have a problem with the banquets. Others have a problem with shuls. Just because you're not bothered by shuls doesn't mean others aren't. For you to call them antisemites for being bothered by shuls, while you yourself are bothered by religious schools, is hypocritical to say the least, and possibly cold hearted.
DeleteWG has plenty of shuls
DeleteWho cares
ReplyDeleteWhy are you shul complainers so bitter?
ReplyDeleteUmmmm because we’re forced to daven like sardines in a can due to politics...
