Dems Pass Budget without Lkwd Funding, Singer Supports

The Democratic-controlled Legislature passed a $38.7 billion state budget in defiance of Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy, who is expected to counter by slashing spending added by lawmakers. The bill was passed with Republican support including State senator Bob Singer of the 30th district that includes Lakewood. This version of the budget strips $30 million in state aid that was initially put in for the Lakewood school district. Seven Republican state senators
voted with Democrats to pass the spending plan 31-6 at the Statehouse in Trenton. The state Assembly voted 53-24 Thursday afternoon, without any GOP support.

  1. I don't get it. If it would have passed without him, why would Singer vote for it. This just makes Lakewoods argument weaker bc even its own senator voted for the cuts. I hope he got a very fat reward from the Dems to have made itvworth it for him to betray his biggest constituents.

  2. Singer is as blind as a bat. You can't blame him for not reading the bill.

  6. What else was (cut) in this budget?

It is difficult to form a clear and accurate opinion about this budget when the only you know about it is that $30 million in state aid that was initially put in for the Lakewood school district was taken out.
