Reb Dovid a noted Mechanech was A Talmid in the Mir Yeshiva of Brooklyn, a pirchei leader at Agudah of Boro Park on 14th Avenue, was co Rosh Yeshiva in Adelphia yeshiva, a rebbe in camp Munk and recently headed Yeshiva Moreshes Yehoshua in Lakewood.
From Matzav.com- “Larger Than Life,” “a Legend,” and “The Real Thing” are just some of the many ways Rav Trenk is described by talmidim and admirers worldwide. Rav Trenk was an energetic, inspiring, superhuman who shaped so many lives and saved so many souls in ways that one cannot begin to fathom. Many lovingly called him “rebbi,” and the enormous adoration everyone shared for him is impossible to put into words.
If you ever witnessed Rav Trenk enthusiastically interact with people, you became a changed person. He treated every person with the same boundless love and affection, a love born out of his association with his rebbi, the Kapytschnitzer Rebbe zt”l, who influenced him in his youth.
Rav Trenk was the original trailblazer in chinuch. Decades before there was an Our Place, Minyan Shelanu, The Living Room, Waterbury Yeshiva, and other such mosdos, Rav Dovid was out on the front lines, recruiting and inspiring boys, often those shunned or disappointed by others or society.
He demonstrated unconditional support, encouragement, understanding and love that created a unique connection and bond with Hashem, his Torah and Klal Yisroel. That was “the Trenk method.”
Rav Dovid looked for the talent and kishronos in each child and found a way to build up their self-esteem.
Some would say that Rav Trenk was the greatest flight instructor in history, for he made everyone believe that they could fly. read more at Matzav
How does anyone write an article about such a person? Larger than life, than anything we can imagine.
ReplyDeleteI was not a troubles youth, and I am not a troubled adult. My life was pretty smooth. Yet my eyes fill with tears remembering his ahavas Yisroel and his true seeking of the good in each person.
He was a real person, with real emotions and real ideas, he did not place himself into a template of how he wanted to look.
His stories were also something else. I hope people write down their memories for others to read and be inspired.
יהא זכרו ברוך.
ReplyDeleteI was zoiche to gain so much inspiration and chizuk from him in so many ways
Rebbi was larger than life. Both literally and figuratively.
ReplyDeleteIn a world of black and white, Rebbi only saw roses. Rich, beautiful, vibrant colored roses.
To Rebbi, it didn't matter what color shirt you wore, how big your yarmulke was or how long your hair grew. To Rebbi, every single Yid was a child of HKBH and was treated as such.
When Rebbi looked at you, his beautiful glowing, crystal-like eyes would pierce your very soul. You could hear them say to you in the softness of tones, yet fulll of conviction - "believe, respect and love yourself. Because I believe in you, I respect you and I love you."
In a generation where it has become popular and cliche to use terms like unconditional love, acceptance, warmth, and the like, Rebbi was living, practicing and imparting these authentic principles his entire life.
To Rebbi, there was no such thing as a boy being off the derech. There were only children of Hashem - those who outwardly showed their struggles and those who carried them on the inside. To Rebbi, those struggles were seen as a piece of a much larger picture - one's beautiful, pristine glowing Neshama full of love, goodness and potential.
My peers and I used to say amongst ourselves - if Rebbi one day would inform any one of his many thousands of talmidim that he was Mashiach and Hashem had finally commanded him to reveal himself, not one of us would blink an eye.
Rebbi, please continue to watch over us. Continue to love us. Respect us. Believe in us.
Yehi Zichro Baruch.
