Erev Shavuos May 21 News Updates

 Shavuos and Memorial Day weekend in New Jersey is expected to feel more like early spring, with rain, gusty winds, and much cooler temperatures replacing this week’s heat.

Showers and winds up to 25 mph will move in Thursday, with highs only in the low to mid-60s

Friday will be mostly cloudy with occasional showers, while the steadiest rain is expected Saturday into Saturday night. Weekend highs are forecast to stay in the upper 50s to low 60s

- TRUMP: Based on the successful Election of the now President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, who I was proud to Endorse, and our relationship with him, I am pleased to announce that the United States will be sending an additional 5,000 Troops to Poland.

- Verizon land lines in Lakewood and surrounding area are not working  since yesterday. Company says it won't be fixed until Tuesday.

- At the entrance to Shaar yafo in the old city of Yerushalayim there's a banner with a picture of the Adirei haTorah event for Lakewood yeshiva 

- Lakewood Girls High school acceptance letters to be mailed out over Shavuos

- Marine One, other army helicopters land near Rockland Community College in Monsey ahead of President Trump‘s visit to Rockland County tomorrow on first day of Shavuos for a event.

- A community wellness event hosted by Wellpoint will take place today Thursday in Lakewood, offering residents free health screenings, giveaways, and community resources.The “Wellpoint Community Day” event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wellpoint storefront located at 100 Clifton Avenue in Lakewood.

- CBS News Radio signing off after nearly 100 years Friday at 11 p.m. will be the final sign-off for CBS News Radio, home of the "World News Roundup" and several generations of the best in the business. a victim of corporate cost-cutting and changing habits.

-  Earlier today brick PG temporarily closed the Trader Joes as the store was full to capacity with people buying flowers for Shavuos 

- Seastreak Ferry service is launching a summer ferry route between Lower Manhattan and Point Pleasant Beach, offering a traffic-free trip to the Jersey Shore in about 1 hour and 15 minutes. The service will run on select weekends from June 19 through Sept. 7, with departures from Manhattan on Fridays and return trips on Sundays. Round-trip adult tickets cost $99, and reservations are required through Seastreak. 

- Several thousand homes and businesses in New Jersey remain without power Thursday morning after strong storms lashed New Jersey on Wednesday night. As of 7:10 a.m, more than 6,000 are waiting for their power to be restored, down from 24,000 on Wednesday night.

- Toms River Mayor Daniel Rodrick has vetoed an ordinance that aimed to limit personal use of township vehicles.The measure, adopted by a 4 to 3 vote on the Township Council last week, would have barred Rodrick from using a township vehicle to commute to his full-time job as an assistant principal at Irvington High School.
