- A two-alarm fire damaged two abandoned homes on 5th Street near Clifton Avenue in Lakewood early Shabbos morning. Firefighters brought the blaze under control with no injuries reported. Officials suspect squatters may have been involved, and the cause is under investigation.
- Agudah: New York Governor Kathy Hochul publicly expressed her intention to opt in to the new federal scholarship tax credit (FSTC).
While 27 states have already joined, only one Democratic governor, Jared Polis of Colorado has opted in so far. Governor Hochul’s support can help encourage other states to opt in.
Governor Hochul hasn’t opted in just yet and may wait until the rules come out of Treasury. Agudah is working with its allies to ensure that the regulations are reasonable and achieve the goals of the tax credit to help students and families in every state.
