- The Lakewood Police Department reminds residents to stay informed about New Jersey's updated bicycle and e-bike laws.New requirements for e-bike riders include licensing, registration, insurance requirements, age restrictions, and mandatory helmet use. These changes are designed to improve safety for riders and everyone sharing our roadways.

Motorists are also reminded that New Jersey's Safe Passing Law requires drivers to move over when possible and provide at least 4 feet of clearance when passing bicyclists and other vulnerable road users. - New Jersey Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin says the proposed $4,000 cap on Stay NJ property tax relief for seniors is too low.The program, included in Governor Mikie Sherrill's proposed FY2027 budget, aims to help seniors stay in their homes by reducing property taxes. Coughlin indicated lawmakers may push for a higher benefit before the budget is finalized.

- Lakewood's primary election saw relatively low voter turnout compared with recent elections that featured organized get-out-the-vote efforts, such as last year's campaign supporting Josh Gottheimer. Incumbents Deborah Fuentes and Moshe Raitzik secured victories over Lakewood resident and activist Aaron Hirsch in the race for Township Committee. Hirsc campaigned on fixing the traffic and quality of life in Lakewood. It seems that business will continue as usual Raitzik was the top vote-getter with 2,067 votes, followed by Fuentes with 1,627 votes. Hirsch received 962 votes. Mayor Ray Coles won the democratic primary Unopposed and will seek reelection along with Fuentes in November

-Shatnez Alert: Polyester suits found with shatnez!

Vaad L'Mishmeres Shatnez recent findings show that more non-woolen suits have been discovered with shatnez, emphasizing the importance of testing all polyester and non-woolen suits. Several polyester suits from the brand Creativo have tested positive for shatnez. Pictures are attached, showing the linen-blend taper reinforcement. These suits were sold in a well-known Jewish-owned store in Lakewood, New Jersey, not far from Beth Medrash Govoha. The buyers, aware that polyester suits require professional shatnez testing, ensured they were tested accordingly

- NJ Natural Gas customers in Monmouth and Ocean counties could see winter heating bills drop by 8.9% starting October 1, lowering the average bill from $148.69 to $135.49. However, a proposed 2027 rate hike could erase those savings and increase bills by about 3.8%.

- Shloimy’s Kosher World, a longtime Lakewood supermarket and butcher shop, is expected to close its doors after years of serving the community. Known for its personnel service, creative sales. popular meat department, fresh sweet challahs, takeout selections, and Shabbos boxes, the store has been a staple for many local families. While no official closing date has been announced, the closure comes amid increasing competition from larger retail supermarkets in the area.
