Better a long shaitel than a tichel if the lady lets her hair stick out in front
ReplyDeleteOk
DeletePlease quote an halachic source
DeleteReb Moshe feinstein and reb Aron kotler said a lady should not go outside with a snood
DeleteShould not go outside or even open the door to the house wearing a snood that is not covering all the hair. Correct.
DeleteNow , obviously should not be outside with hair uncovered
Now , if and when a wig is worn it should be according all halachos of the Torah.
Now, in no way did they say or mean that anyone dressing like their respected grandmothers (or add as many greats you wish) is not good and their daughters shouldn't be allowed in to schools. (obviously they didn't see what you are considering a shaitel)
Yet another letter from"gedolim" with a obvious agenda let's assume that many wigs are against halacha ,there are many which are okay so why go to the other extreme with a headscarf..? Obviously the people pushing this agenda prefer headscarves over wigs? old conversation old agenda, reframed.
ReplyDeleteAgenda is to allow children into schools
DeleteThere is a picture of Rav Aharon's wife in the Art Scroll bio written by Rabbi Dershowitz.
ReplyDeleteBesides the fact that it never entered the author's mind not to allow a picture of her, she was wearing a very nice shaitel. I'm not saying it was like today's shaitels, bvut encouraging headscarfs?
Come on!
There has been no member of American Moetzes in its history who's wife wore a scarf.
Is the issue tznius or avodah zara?
ReplyDeleteאלוהיהם של אלה שונא זימה הוא
ReplyDeleteLong genuine looking attractive wigs must go
Everyone knows that they're a סתירה to קדושת ישראל and make a mockery of the intended purpose of the halacha
Everyone besides the poskim. See Mishna Berura et al.
DeleteHere we go again -just Pasal 10's of thousands of our nashim with the stroke of a pen.
ReplyDeleteIt's encouraging the encoureged. In no means or terms paseling. However it seems some schools are paseling their very own grandmothers.
DeleteThe American gedolim are signing on something different than the one on top .
ReplyDeleteThe shaitels are fine.
ReplyDeleteIt's a macklokes between you and the signees
DeleteIf you read the handwritten parts, there seems to be a lot more to the anti sheitel letter.
ReplyDeleteIt seems that some kids were rejected from a school allegedly because the mother wear a tichel which is absolutely ludicrous that a school would do that.
So someone ran around getting signatures against this school while the anti sheitel kanoim decided to turn this into a general letter about sheitel.
This is probably the actual reason why his kids weren't accepted, they don't want a troublemaker like that in the parent body
I can't wait to see the reaction when the first mother shows up in school wearing a burka.
DeleteIf schools had a right to reject a child, wearing a tichel would be a more valid reason than many others.
DeleteThose who reject the pesak that was accepted by the vast majority of ehrliche Yidden are not to be trusted.
But schools shouldn't judge the parents at all, in my opinion. And Rav Shteinman agrees with me.
Very simple. The wife of every Kvod Harav who signed this letter should going forward wear a headscarf. No more shaitel. When going shopping , to simchos, and everywhere in between.
ReplyDeleteThen, we can continue the conversation
women should not be going shopping or smachot.
Deletethey should stay at home, cooking for husbands and single men. Sewing clothes, washing clothing by hand (there's no messorah for washing machines. Rav Aharon's rebbetzin didn't wear a sheitel didn't go shopping, and didn't go to smachot. In fact, she didn't even live in Lakewood. Boro Park, yes, 15 ave 47 st.)
But women didn't sit in ezrat nashim on Purim in her husband's shul. I know, I used to daven there
Read the letter! It doesn’t say scarves are better or that people should switch, it says that given the issues with some wigs, those who choose scarves should be supported. The idea is don’t look down on those wearing scarves, they are doing a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI woks think people of such stature would make themselves clear. And not let others use them for their agenda
They weren't talking about sheitels that look equivalent and, in fact, better than regular hair.

DeleteIs anyone able to read the comments? I don't think the wives of any of the Americans, including BMG Roshei Yeshivah wear head scarfs. So why did they sign the letter encouraging it?
ReplyDeleteREAD what they wrote.
DeleteI agree that a kid maybe not getting accepted if the Mother goes around outside with a Tichel. Unless u also shave your head and are Hungarian, or a sefardi, NORMAL frum ladies don't go around in public with a tichel. If they do they are not normal, and make s big CH walking around looking like goons!
ReplyDeleteWow. YOU are the problem that is the catalyst for letters like this.
DeleteHungarian women do NOT shave their hair. My mother NEVER did.
DeleteNormal women should not go with hair uncovered
DeleteThank you
What's better, lady with a tichel and her hair sticking out all over. Or a lady with a nice shaitel even if a bit long. Also No mitzvah to look like a shlump
ReplyDeleteThe Lubavitcher Rebbe zy"a was very makpid that people should wear a sheitel, not a tichel.
ReplyDeleteAnd it should look like something a neighbor would wish to emulate.
Us True Bnai Torah in Lakewood are not concerned about anything the Lubavicher said or didn't say!
ReplyDeleteHow sad that people narrow their vistas so much to ignore the words of the Lubavitcher Rebbe zy"a.
DeleteThat's not true you guys were busy with everything he did 24/7 he lives rent free in your heads
DeleteWhy the zy"a? Many if not most of you believe he is the King Messiah let him live forever and ever! Lol
