- The Aguda Chairmans take: this week, I found myself far from Har Sinai.
Parnassah obligations took me to a football stadium on Sunday, where the biggest game of the year was being played. This Shabbos, with Hashem's help, I will be in California, hosting a Shabbos of kiruv and kiddush shem Shamayim for NBA executives, staffers and guests in advance of a basketball game on Sunday. It has become an annual tradition at this point, and so many of them wait for the Shabbos all year- the tefillos, the seudos, the singing and spirit. They crave the ma'achalei Shabbos and the feeling of belonging that all the wins can't give them.
I try to live with this vort, taking the chizuk and inspiration of the shtiebel with me even when I'm far away, and to be honest, it's getting easier.
Once upon a time, a stadium felt so foreign, so alien, but in recent years, we have seen so many joyous celebrations in just that sort of venue- siyumim and chizuk gatherings and Adirei HaTorah; now, when I walk into a large stadium, I am overcome with memories- and anticipation, Baruch Hashem, with the great Siyum Hashas of 2027 approaching. As Klal Yisroel continues its march through Seder Kodashim, I can already hear a different sort of applause and euphoria, marking an eternal accomplishment.
