This shiur, delivered at Yeshivas Beis Meir in Lakewood on Chanukah 5786, recounts a historic episode from nearly a century ago. As a young man, the
Steipler Gaon shared a Torah insight with his brother-in-law, the Chazon Ish, during Chanukah. That Torah thought so impressed the Chazon Ish that he chose him as a shidduch for his sister, and the Shidduch was finalized. Years later, a great talmid chacham challenged that very Torah insight and remarked, with irony, that “the din of the shidduch should therefore be botel.” This unique shiur serves as a halachic analysis and response to that claim, clarifying the issue through careful halachic reasoning.
