Re the letter against women driving busses, it should be made clear that these were, I believe, Sephardic Rabbonim. And regarding the mentioned opposition to women driving at all, the wives of Litvish Gedolim in America drove and it never entered anyone's mind that it was a
ReplyDeletebreach of tznius.
Several chassidic groups ban women from driving (even alone).
DeleteThe latter sentence has no relevance
DeleteThis is about driving busses, not driving carpool.
Delete5:35
DeleteWhat is the relevance from the topic to the last sentence
Several chassidic groups are completely wrong, having made up a new concept of tznius that has nothing to do with Torah.
DeleteIt's relevant cause
Delete1. Pointing out it's not just a litvish thing.
2. Pointing out it's not just a busses
3. It's not just an Israeli thing
Let’s all not rewrite history but in the Lita it was also totally unacceptable for woman to lead a horse. Now I get the difference between a car and a horse but that’s where the chasidic community is coming from. Let alone that in Kelm men and woman had to walk on separate sides of the road. I would tell you go ask your grandparents, but chances are none of your grandparents actually are from the Lita. Your probably some Hungarian/galiciana.
DeleteWhat does 'separate sides of the road' have to do with women driving?
DeleteAnd in Kelm they did not walk on separate sides of the road. When strolling on Shabbos afternoons they did. But on a stam walk down the road, there was no separation. And in Brisk it was like that too, on Shabbos afternoons.
Which all has nothing to do with driving cars. There is nothing more tzniusdig about women not driving than driving. It's absolute nonsense, not merely a chumra shel shtus. Its not even a chumra, its just nonsense. Like a seuda on Kislev 12
So for a short walk with a purpose it was ok.But for strolling it wasn't
DeleteThe goal is to increase tzniyus because when women dont drive they take public transportation instead which is more mitzuna?
DeleteBeing in charge of the bus is less tznua
DeleteThey didn't drive buses
ReplyDeleteI eas addressing the reference to Gedolim who said driving alone is assur .
DeleteThat is totally Sefardic or Chassidic

DeleteAnd she drove. And before anyone tries to deny it?
She once gave me a ride!
Was the cholent passable
DeleteWas the Jackson school bus driver doing a yeshiva or bais Yaakov run?
ReplyDeleteGovernor Hochul is a liar. She can only prevent a long incarceration, not a short term incarceration.
She can immediately get an order of protection against Mayor Elect Mandami. Even today. And announce any policeman participating in such an arrest will be immediately fired with loss of pension. (Of course, the Arabs will immediately give such a policeman a million dollars or more to make up for lost salary and pension. Probably tax-free.)
You sound angry.
DeleteHave a warm bath and large mug of chamomile tea.
Chamomile tea is a sfardi thing.
