The Roshei Yeshiva's Trip to Washington DC

A update from the Agudah CEO who accompanied the Roshei Yeshiva to visit the Israeli Ambassador to the US in DC.

Dear Friends,

Some people treasure pictures they have taken in front of Buckingham Palace or the White House: I will cherish this one, my encounter with malchus. Som tasim alecha melech, a mitzvah in this week’s parsha to live with a king guiding us. Man malki rabbanan, Chazal tell us (Gittin 62a )- our example of royalty is talmidei chachamim.

They wanted us to convey the message that the American Torah world also shares the conviction that our yeshivah bachurim and kollel yungeleit sustain, protect and safeguard the Holy Land and the entire world. I had the zechus of accompanying Rav Ahron Feldman, Rav Elya Brudny and Rav Malkiel Kotler to our nation’s capital, where we met with Ambassador Yechiel Leiter, a man of extraordinary graciousness, insight and respect- the sort of person who can have a productive conversation with others even if they don’t see eye-to-eye on every issue. And for me, it was a chance to observe malchus, to see the selflessness and nobility of our leaders up close.

At one point, the ambassador mentioned the fact that his son, Moshe Yedidya, fell in Gaza, a

- Witkoff: The official position of the Trump administration is to reject any partial agreement and demand the return of all hostages in one wave. Hamas cannot have any connection to a future government - this is a shared position of Israel and President Trump. Hams knows this. Hamas has begun to show signs that it is open to an arrangement. - Heavy shelling by IDF in Gaza city today

-A senior Egyptian official involved in the negotiations told the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar: So far, there is no new horizon to advance towards, against the backdrop of the Israeli demand for a comprehensive deal rather than a partial one. Elul Zman 5785 Begins in The Yeshiva World

The boys are back from camp. The shofar was sounded this morning, and so will the kol Torah, as Elul Zman 5785 officially begins today in Bais Medrash Govoha. A short chavrusah tumul took place this morning, with the yeshiva beginning Maseches Gittin.

Other yeshivos and mesivtos across Lakewood are also starting today and tonight. Several new mosdos for both mesivta and bais medrash-age bochurim have opened their doors for the new year. At BMG, renovations were completed in the Forest Beis Medrash, including a facelift and expanded rooms.

In Long Beach, a number of new maggidei shiur have been appointed. Rav Mordechai Stern shlita will be delivering the highest-level shiur in Bais Medrash. Rav Sommers and Rav Shimon Waxman will be giving shiurim for mesivta and first-year bais medrash bochurim.

In Eretz Yisroel, Ponovezh Yeshiva now counts over 2,200 talmidim. The yeshiva has expanded the Ohel Kodshim building and opened a new dormitory above the Vizhnitzer Beis Medrash on Rechov Maharshal. A specially constructed bridge now connects the dormitory directly to the main Ponovezh campus.
Mir Yeshiva added a new building with 100 seats on Rechov Chaim Ozer near Zhville. What was once an open-door policy for American bochurim has now shifted, as the hanhalah has tightened admissions with rigorous farhers, making acceptance more competitive.

Brisk Yeshiva on Rechov Press has also undergone renovations to accommodate growth. The exterior and staircases have been refurbished, and the upgraded entrance now better accommodates the Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Avrohom Yehoshua Soloveitchik shlita, along with the thousands of talmidim who arrive daily to learn in the yeshiva’s eight bustling batei medrash.

In Baltimore, the Kollel continues to flourish with over 230 youngeleit, while in Indianapolis, a new kollel will be opening this zman, led by talmidim of Yeshivas Ner Yisroel.

Night seder for baalei batim has resumed as well, with a new program opening in Jackson at Mordy’s shtiebel. The hustle and bustle of the zman is back, as the quiet days of summer vacation draw to a close. Boys’ elementary schools will begin this Wednesday, while girls’ schools will start after Labor Day, on September 3rd.

Israel At War Monday August 25

 Israel at war day 689

- President Trump: I'm pretty sure in 2-3 weeks we'll have a decisive end to the war (in Gaza). The war has to end but people can't forget October 7th.

- Prime Minister’s Office Statement:
Israel deeply regrets the tragic mishap that occurred today at the Nasser Hospital in Gaza. Israel values the work of journalists, medical staff, and all civilians. The military authorities are conducting a thorough investigation. Our war is with Hamas terrorists. Our just goals are defeating Hamas and bringing our hostages.

- President Trump, in response to a reporter's question about the deaths of 20 Gazans, including “journalists”, in an Israeli attack on the Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis today:
I'm not happy about it. I don't want to see these things. At the same time, we have to put an end to this whole nightmare. I rescued the hostages, all of them. Steve Witkoff was amazing. He did a great job, but I rescued them all because of my people and because of me. Now we're left with probably a little less than 20 hostages. I think one or two of them are dead. I said a long time ago that I would get them out, but when we get to the last 10 or 20, these people (Hamas) will not release them because they will be eliminated after they release them. It's a terrible situation a very terrible thing.

- IDF strike on south Gaza hospital said to kill 20, including rescuers and journalists
According to IDF sources, the attack was carried out after ground forces identified a threat to them from the hospital roof. The troops of Division 36 operating in Khan Yunis identified observations directed at them from the hospital roof for an extended period, and therefore attacked there. According to security officials, the entire hospital area is supposed to be cleared of the civilian population - except for the patients and medical staff who are allowed to remain there. Journalists affiliated with Reuters, AP, and Al Jazeera killed  The hospital was reportedly operating at full capacity, treating over 1,000 patients at the time of the strikes, Nasser Hospital Director Atef al-Hout told Al-Arabiya TV. He also claimed that over 50 people were wounded.

-A security source on the Nasser hospital strike in Gaza:
There was a camera on the hospital roof that recorded Israeli forces and was being used by Hamas. The forces received authorization to remove the camera with a drone.
Instead, they fired two tank shells  one at the camera and then one at the rescue forces on site.  (Ammit Segal)

-Turkey says Gaza hospital strike ‘attack on press freedom’

- The current hostage, ceasefire deal on the table is "no longer relevant," as any future negotiations must include the release of all hostages and a ceasefire on "terms that Israel is ready for," N12 quoted senior Israeli officials as saying on Sunday. “There is no connection between the upcoming military operation in Gaza,” the officials said, according to the report. “The hostage deal talks will not stop the operation, but the operation will accelerate the talks.”

- A new location for hostage deal negotiations outside of Qatar, Egypt
A new venue for negotiations, outside of Qatar and Egypt, is also reportedly to be up for debate, with a European capital or the United Arab Emirates (UAE) presented among the potential options.

- Syria says it “strongly condemns” what it says was an Israeli military incursion into an area in the country’s south, calling it a “dangerous escalation.” According to Damascus, dozens of soldiers and over 10 military vehicles were involved in a raid in the area of Beit Jinn, which sits near the border with the Golan Heights.

- Israel is “ready to support” Lebanon’s efforts to disarm Hezbollah and will implement a phased reduction of its military presence in Lebanon as a “reciprocal measure,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement on Monday. If the Lebanese Armed Forces “take the necessary steps to implement the disarmament of Hezbollah, Israel will engage in reciprocal measures, including a phased reduction of IDF presence in coordination with the US-led security mechanism,” the statement reads.

As reported yesterday, the missile disintegrated shortly before reaching Israeli territory, and the Air Force fired interceptors at its fragments. It is now being investigated whether these were separate warheads, each with its own explosive.
During the campaign against Iran in June, Iran launched several ballistic missiles with similar cluster warheads, and it is very likely that Iran transferred similar weapons systems to the Houthis.

-Thousands of people gathered in Tel Aviv and across Israel tonight in weekly protests calling on the government to make a deal with the Hamas  for a hostage release deal and ceasefire in the Gaza Strip,  as this may be the last chance to save lives.
