Israel At War Friday Nov 29

 Israel at war day 420

- Israel concerned about Syria: The urgent security discussion in Israel tonight has many worried about the unprecedented situation in Syria. Israeli reporters are saying that from conversations they've been having with senior IDF officials, the security apparatus is "closely following" the rebel offensive.
The offensive, which has severely damaged Iranian/Syrian/Hezbollah forces and militias in the area, is of great interest to Israel. Hezbollah and IRGC units in Syria are busy trying to fight off the attack instead of focusing on Israel.
Doron Kadosh from IDF Radio asserts that Israel should consider whether it is content to watch from the sidelines, or whether this development has an effect on their own military operations in Syria. This is a very rapid and uncertain situation, and Israel will need to make quick decisions on how/if they're going to intervene(Jewish warrior on x)

- Netanyahu will hold a special security discussion tonight on Shabbos  with senior officials on the topic of Syria and Lebanon as the rebels are gaining ground in Syria

- Total collapse of Assad's forces inside the city of Aleppo. The rebels inside the city of Aleppo do not meet any resistance. It seems that all the senior officers of Assad's army, as well as the soldiers, ran away.

- Terror attack in west bank: Nine wounded in West Bank terror shooting, terrorist killed by soldiers nearby
Three people were in serious condition, and one in moderate condition.
One person was in critical condition. Hamas took responsibility for the shooting attack.
The terrorist drove from the Tapuach Junction area to the Gitai Avisar Junction — a route with no internal checkpoints — and stopped his car on the side of the road, around 150 meters from a bus stop. From there, he opened fire at the bus while approaching it on foot. He IDF troops stationed in the area returned fire, killing him shortly after the attack began.

- Iranian Foreign Minister blames  recent rebel attacks in Syria as “a US-Zionist plan following the Zionist regime’s defeat in Lebanon and Palestine,” Iran’s state media reports.

- Netanyahu said Thursday that if Hezbollah were to violate the agreement, there would be “intensive war.”,” the response would extend beyond “surgical operations like we’re doing now.”

- The IDF’s Home Front Command lifted all restrictions on gatherings south of Chaifa. The restrictions, which limited the number of people allowed at indoor and outdoor gatherings, were put in place amid heavy rocket fire from Hezbollah.

- Some leaders in Hamas are considering a Gaza hostage-ceasefire deal, in which the IDF would remain temporarily in the Philadelphi Corridor in the Gaza Strip, the New York Times reported on Thursday. According to the Times, Palestinian and US officials believed that Hamas’ political leadership was ready to make a deal after the elimination of Yahya Sinwar last month.

- The rebels in Syria claim to have taken control of the western part of the city of Aleppo. According to various reports, the Russian army was forced to evacuate bases in the area

-  CHS update: A bill that was submitted by assemblyman Avi Schnall  that Expands eligibility requirements of State's child care assistance program to include full-time graduate and post-graduate students, passed in the assembly 75-0 On Oct 28.  The Office of Legislative Services (OLS) concludes that the bill’s provisions would result in an indeterminate increase to State expenditures due to growth in the number of families who would qualify for benefits under the child care assistance program. In FY 2025, the estimated average annual cost per child under the program is approximately $11,576.

The OLS estimates that there are 12,827 full-time graduate and post-graduate students who are raising children in the State. Of these students, it is unknown how many would be otherwise eligible for child care assistance benefits and would also be in need of child care.  For reference, assuming 13 percent of all full-time graduate and post-graduate students in theState with children, or 1,667, would be otherwise eligible for the child care assistance program, would elect to apply for benefits, and had, on average, 1.5 children with child care needs, the cost under the bill would be approximately $29 million. As the child care assistance program receives federal support in the form of block grants, this estimate assumes that the increase in costs under the bill would be incurred solely by the State.

 Israel at war day 419

The Israeli air force used precision strikes to fire at terrorists in southern Lebanon on Thursday after IDF troops identified two terrorists arriving at a known terror base, which had acted as a launch point for dozens of rockets toward Israel, the IDF said in a statement Thursday evening.

- IDF Spokesman: A short time ago, terrorist activity was detected at a facility of the Hezbollah terrorist organization with medium-range rockets in southern Lebanon. The threat was foiled by a fighter jet. The attack was north of Litani in the Sidon area.  There was no detection of preparations for the immediate firing of rockets into Israeli territory, but the very activity of Hezbollah personnel inside the facility constitutes a "non-immediate threat" that the IDF is required to act against.

Thanksgiving: Harmless Holiday or חוקת הגויים

By Rabbi Yehuda Spitz Ohr Somayach

One of the interesting aspects of being American and living in the ‘Medina shel Chessed’ is dealing with secular holidays. A day off from work, more time to learn, and suspended Alternate Side parking rules are always appreciated. Of these holidays, Thanksgiving is by far the most popular among Yidden, with many keeping some semblance of observance, generally as a way of saying ‘Thank You’ and showing a form of Hakaras HaTov to our host country. Although all agree that showing Hakaras HaTov is prudent, on the other hand, it is well known that many contemporary poskim were very wary of any form of actual Thanksgiving observance. This article sets out to explore the history and halachic issues of this very American holiday.

Why Thanksgiving?

Israel At War Wednesday Nov 27

 Israel at War day 418

- The Israeli military said on Wednesday it had destroyed one of Hezbollah's top strategic missile sites near the border with Syria, hours before an Israel-Lebanon ceasefire took effect.
The Israeli jets hit an underground complex that was used to produce surface-to-surface missiles and store precision weapons, the military said, with the help of Iran.

- Since the morning hours, the IDF forces have killed several suspects who approached them in southern Lebanon, shot and wounded additional suspects, and arrested 4 Hezbollah terrorists.

- "Hamas is ready for a ceasefire agreement and a serious deal to exchange prisoners," a senior Hamas official was cited as saying

- Israel is not giving up the buffer zone on the Lebanese border and will try to reach an understanding with the Trump administration according to which the villages adjacent to the fence will not be rebuilt. According to the agreement, the IDF must withdraw from Lebanon within 60 days. There will already be a new administration in the White House at this stage. Israel will claim that every house in the villages adjacent to the border where terrorist infrastructure was discovered and destroyed for this reason ( about 80% of the houses) is, according to international law, a terrorist site that must not be rebuilt. The assessment (or hope) is that the new administration may accept this interpretation.

- Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire comes into effect, halting nearly 14 months of fighting. A 60-day transition period, during which the IDF will withdraw its forces from southern Lebanon, while the Lebanese Army will deploy some 5,000 troops south of the Litani River, including at 33 posts along the border with Israel.
Hezbollah forces will leave southern Lebanon, and its military infrastructure will be dismantled. The US has also reportedly provided a side letter specifying Israel’s rights to respond to any violations .

- US President Joe Biden says the US and other mediators will jumpstart efforts to reach a ceasefire deal in Gaza that removes the Hamas terror group from power while freeing hostages held captive in the Strip for over a year.

Israel At War Tuesday Nov 26

 Israel at war day 417

- Ted Cruz: Obama-Biden officials pressured our Israeli allies into accepting the ceasefire by withholding weapons they needed to defend themselves and counter Hezbollah, and by threatening to facilitate a further, broader, binding international arms embargo through the United Nations. Obama-Biden officials are already trying to use Israel's acceptance of this ceasefire to ensure that Hezbollah and other Iranian terrorist groups remain intact across Lebanon, and to limit Israel's future freedom of action and self-defense.

- Biden: "France and the US will work to ensure that the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon is implemented. During the next few days, the US will make another attempt with Turkey, Qatar, and other countries to reach a ceasefire in Gaza.
"I want to be clear. Israel did not initiate this war. The Lebanese people did not want this war either, and neither did the US—Hezbollah forced the war."

- According to a military source: Convoys of the Lebanese army arrived in southern Lebanon. They are expected to join the intervention battalion (commando forces) and be deployed along the border

- Pundits: The Biden Administration literally blackmailed Benjamin Netanyahu into a ceasefire deal. He didn't have a choice. It  was forced on Israel by the Biden admin by continuing the arms embargo of much-needed arms. Bibi and Israel are waiting for Trump to take office

- Prime Minister's Office: The political-security cabinet approved this evening the proposal of the United States for a cease-fire arrangement in Lebanon by a majority of 10 ministers.
Israel appreciates the contribution of the United States to the process and maintains its right to act against any threat to its security.

- Report in the Qatari newspaper Al-Arabi Al-Jadid: An Egyptian security delegation is expected to arrive in Israel in the coming hours to meet with senior officials in charge of the abductees. According to the details, they will discuss proposals related to the management of the Gaza Strip "the day after" the war, which will pave the way for reaching an agreement

- If Hezbollah does not attack that will mean the end of the war in the north and not just a ceasefire and it means quiet on the lebenon border. If they don't honor the agreement, Israel will attack.

- Netanyahu lists three reasons for going to the ceasefire agreement:
1. Focusing on the Iranian threat - and I won't elaborate on that
2. Replenishment and Full Replenishment - This delay (Biden halting arms) is about to be released soon
3. Cutting off the fronts and isolating Hamas

-Netanyahu, in a statement: I promised victory, and we will achieve victory. We will complete the elimination of Hamas, the return of all our abductees, and the return of the residents of the north.

- An IDF soldier was killed during fighting in the northern Gaza Strip earlier today, bringing the death toll in the Gaza ground invasion to 381
Tamer Othman, 21,from Kafr Yasif.

-Sirens in Northern Israel cities of Nahariya, Chaifa, Ako and Krayot

- Netanyahu will address the nation at 8pm

- Ceasefire to go into effect tomorrow morning 10:00am. Biden will make announcement later today.

- Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to convene the security cabinet, where ministers are expected to approve a ceasefire with Hezbollah.

- A joint American-French statement will be published around 10PM local time that will announce the achievement of a cease-fire agreement. In addition, the position of the Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati will be to welcome the cease-fire agreement.

- Senior Israeli official tells Moriah Aseraf (Channel 13): "After the Cabinet approves the agreement with Lebanon this evening - Israel will inform the US of their final approval. The ceasefire will come into effect tomorrow."

- The IDF has reached the Litani River in the eastern sector of southern Lebanon, as well as the Wadi Saluki area, where the military says troops located dozens of Hezbollah weapons and sites. and dozens of primed rocket launchers. The IDF says the troops battled Hezbollah terrorists in the Litani River area, and located and destroyed dozens of rocket launchers, hundreds of rockets, weapon depots, and other weapons hidden in the mountainside.

- The IDF has struck a target in central Beirut with no prior evacuation notice.

-IDF has atruck 20 buildings in the Dahiya, Beirut launching a  massive attacks on Hezbollah infrastructure.

- BDE Yona Bezalel Brief, 23 years succumbed to his injuries after being seriously wounded on October 7, 2023, in a battle in Gaza ZL HYD

- Four demands of Smotritz and religious Zionism as a condition for supporting the agreement:
1. Any expenditure of troops from a sector in Lebanon requires a cabinet vote
2. Approval of an enforcement policy of violations within 48 hours in the cabinet
3. Every house destroyed in southern Lebanon will be defined as a military infrastructure, and therefore it will be forbidden to rebuild it
4. The responsibility of the State of Lebanon will be expressed in the fact that any violation will also result in an attack on Lebanese infrastructure
