- Giyus: Stormy Hafganos are taking place today across Eretz Yisroel with escalated protests against the arrest and transfer of yeshiva students to military authorities. Rav Moshe Sternbach called on The Edah HaChareidis and Rav Ezriel Auerbach called on the the bnei Torah faction to go out and join the protests, which were sparked by the planned transfer of 19 detainees who were arrested for protesting outside the home of Justice Solberg, to the IDF military police.
Demonstrations and road blockages were reported in central Israel and near detention facilities, including clashes in Yerushalayim and Abu Kabir.
- Attorney Natan Rosenblatt on Kol Chai: “There is no legal prohibition on protesting outside a judge’s home, and the High Court has repeatedly ruled that there is full freedom of protest in the country. Out of 65 detainees, 64 have no connection to the breaking of windows, and the police have no shred of evidence against them in court, their representative simply stood there stammering without answers. This is a clear silencing event intended to make the charedi public afraid to go out and protest in the future against the draft.”

- Planning board meeting recap
Points made by the board Lakewod a disaster but applicants have the right to build based on the masterplan
At Wednesday night's Planning Board meeting, members approved an application to create 75 residential lots on a 10-acre parcel behind the High Point development off Massachusetts Avenue. The hearing featured extensive testimony and public comment, with neighboring residents raising concerns about drainage, lighting, utility access, and traffic impacts. Particular attention was given to the project's proposed access plan, which currently calls for a right-turn-only exit onto Massachusetts Avenue. Residents argued that adding more than 100 vehicles to an area already experiencing congestion from Prospect Street would worsen traffic conditions.
The meeting also saw tense exchanges between board members and an attorney representing opponents of the project. The board chairman and several members repeatedly criticized the attorney, accusing him of filibustering rather than presenting substantive arguments. Board members also expressed frustration with the length of the hearing, despite the meeting ending before 9 p.m.

- Road closures in Lakewood are continuing, and the LPD has begun issuing nightly closure alerts. There is still no clear timeline or official communication from township authorities about how long the situation will last or what measures are being taken. There are also growing safety concerns, as emergency responders have reportedly been forced to take longer detour routes to reach calls, potentially delaying response times. In other news the Township posted a Press release to the media that they repaved and restriped a dozen roads across its downtown and Central Avenue corridor in recent weeks, continuing an infrastructure push that gained momentum during the spring season. "We greatly appreciate the professional dedicated work of Lakewood's Engineering team and Township subcontractors," said Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein. "Thanks to their efforts, our Town's infrastructure is continuously being updated, enhancing both safety and quality-of-life for our residents."

ReplyDeleteNu what happened at the LSTA meeting
ReplyDeleteDid anyone from the public get to speak?
I worked hard for a client on get the regulations passed and am still trying to get an effective oversight committee. This is salvation for everyone complaining about bussing. Unfortunately, the committee only posted an obscur notice in the Star Ledger.
DeleteI had filed a complaint about not having a board or regulations and the State passed the regulations in response. They had an board meeting in February that no one knew about. Then I filed a petition in the Office of Administrative Law because of lack of notice of board meetings. From speaking to the Jackson board member, the public did not show up.
I asked Ryan Silver, the Deputy Attorney General defending the State in the OAL (and in the Lakewood State Takeover case that Prof. T.., Mel Wyns, and I petitioned to participate in,, a state takeover will not change the problem with the formula) to let me know about the next meeting. He did email about today until well after the meeting ended. Aaron Lang
The behavior of some zoning and planning board chairmen is abhorrent, particularly in how they treat residents who oppose applications. These officials are supposed to serve as impartial decision-makers, ensuring that all parties receive a fair and respectful hearing. Instead, opponents are often met with dismissive attitudes, impatience, interruptions, or a lack of consideration for their concerns.
ReplyDeleteWhether someone supports or opposes an application, every participant deserves to be treated with professionalism and respect. The role of a board chair is not to advocate for one side, but to fairly manage the proceedings, listen to all testimony, and ensure decisions are based on the facts and applicable laws. Its bad middos and shameful that the other members just sit there and watch the horrible treatment as they bully residents from their pulpit.
The elephant in the room nobody wants to discuss:
ReplyDeleteStop calling this "housing needs for young families."
When new duplexes and homes start at $1.5 million and up, that is NOT affordable housing for Lakewood's young couples, Kollel families, or the next generation of BMG families.
The reality is that many young couples are being forced to leave Lakewood and buy homes in neighboring towns because they simply cannot afford to live here anymore. Meanwhile, officials continue approving more development while residents sit in endless traffic, watch their streets turn into parking lots, and pay higher taxes.
Who is benefiting from all this construction? It certainly isn't the average young family trying to build a life in Lakewood.
If these projects were truly creating affordable housing for current residents, that would be one thing. But approving luxury-priced homes for outsiders while claiming it's a solution to the housing crisis is misleading.
Residents are paying the price through worsening congestion, overcrowded infrastructure, and declining quality of life, while the people making these decisions often don't experience the consequences firsthand they live in developed areas where no new construction or duplexes are permitted. Some of the board members don't even live in Lakewood.
The question is simple: How does building more $1.5+ million homes help the young families who can no longer afford to live in the community?
Until someone answers that honestly, many residents will continue to believe that the current approach serves developers and special interests far more than it serves the people who already live here.
Ignoring this reality is not leadership. It's a disservice to the community and a chilul Hashem.
The greed will be the undoing of Lakewood as they push out the current residents and yeshiva leit will move away to a new ihr haTorah. Very shortsighted to make some money but lose the town
DeleteAnything less than a vote against this sick bill by Avi Schnall will be a chilul shem shamayim
ReplyDeleteHe has no business abstaining or playing shtick with no votes from these immoral bills. If he can't vote against it he should resign in shame

DeleteThe law being debated in the NJ Senate does not criminalize a Rav, therapist, or mentor who tries to persuade a person to follow the Torah.
ReplyDeleteScare tactics backfire
Fact-The bill would allow individuals of any age to sue anyone alleged to have "interfered" with their decision to obtain gender-related healthcare services, and to seek damages for harm to their "business or personal reputation," "financial harm," or "pain and suffering, mental anguish, or emotional harm."
DeleteDear Editor,
DeleteThank you for alerting the public to the clear and present threat posed by S2260/ A2218, currently looming in the NJ Assembly (latest version: https://www.njleg.state.nj.us/bill-search/2026/A2218/bill-text?f=A2500&n=2218_U1).
Around the country, and throughout the Western world, emotionally and psychologically vulnerable youth are being exploited and indoctrinated into submitting themselves to terribly abusive chemical and surgical procedures - often including permanent mutilation of one's reproductive organs - thereby enriching certain financial interests, that could accurately be described as the "transgender-industrial-medical-complex."
These youth go on to experience tremendous upheaval in their lives, many experiencing unrelenting regret. We must never forget that THEY are victims - victims of a society that allows this to be perpetrated. And WE are that society. It is our fault we've fallen so far.
Therefore, never again should we stand by when such harm is being perpetrated on our watch, by our representatives, whom we elected.
Wherever we fall on the Jewish communal spectrum, never again can we stand by when innocent children are being victimized, especially when it's being committed under the guise of Law. Never again can we ignore the Torah imperative, based on "Lo Sa'amod al-dam rei'echah" (VaYikra 19:16, see Shulchan Aruch Chosen Mishpat 426) to employ all available means to stop this, or at least mitigate it.
Never again can we allow our legislative reps to remain oblivious to our objections to the genuine consequences of this bill.
Never again can we allow them to vote for legislation that any properly informed, thinking person realizes indeed criminalizes efforts to dissuade someone from "transitioning to the opposite sex" if they would be accused of merely causing "emotional anguish or mental harm"...
rabosai the rabbanim have said all of us must donate to the kerem olam Hatorah, so we must cut out the narishkeit of gvir culture.
