Audio of Rav Shneur Kotler zatzal in 1978 courtesy of Adirei HaTorah commemorating his 43rd yartzeit today the 3rd of Tammuz,
At a parlor meeting in Los Angeles around 1978, the host recalled how many had once insisted that “building Torah in America could not be done… The idea of talmidei chachamim sitting and learning day and night was thought to be impossible.”
But the Rosh HaYeshiva, following the legacy of his illustrious father Rav Aharon zt”l, refused to relegate the great yeshivos of Europe to the past. They did not speak of “Slabodka that was, Novardok that was, Mir that was…” Instead, they believed — and lived — the truth that there is and there will be. To them, the legacy of the yeshiva world was not history; it was destiny. It was alive, and it had a future — right here in America.
This unwavering vision is just one part of the remarkable legacy of the Rosh HaYeshiva zt”l.
The “host” - first few minutes of the recording, is none other than R Shmuel Kamenetsky
