8:15pm Somerset walk back on
More power outages along main streets traffic lights are out.
5:30 pm developments along Pine Street have been out of power since 9:30 pm last night. Still no word from officials on any progress.
Estimated restoration time pushed back to 11:30 pm
- Lights briefly flickered on for 2 minutes this afternoon and than went back off others had it back on for 2 hours before it went out again.
- JCP&L“The outages experienced today have largely been due to trips on our higher voltage lines that feed the substations,” said Christopher Hoenig, a spokesman for First Energy Corp., the parent company of JCP&L. “Our crews are working around the clock and we have activated the same 16-hour shift rotation we utilize during storms to ensure that we are ready to respond quickly when outages do occur. We recognize how tough it is to be without power, especially during the extreme heat.”
As of this morning, many areas of Lakewood are still without power since last night at 10 PM. The Lakewood Cheder and Orchos Chaim have both canceled school today. The Pine Street area is also without power. JCP&L continues to push back the estimated restoration times now at
11pm tonight.
Weather in Lakewood today will hit
99° with record breaking temps.
The heatwave is particularly dangerous, as many elderly residents are stuck at home without power. Some are now staying with relatives. This is the third round of power outages, in 24 hours and residents are beginning to question whether the ovperdevelopment, particularly with many new office buildings, has strained the power grid. There's concern that it can’t handle peak demand, especially during a heatwave.
As an Orchos Chaim parent I can tell you that no message was received and the bus came today.
ReplyDeleteI just received a message that its canceled
DeleteMy kids got dropped off 15 min after going on the bus. We got a text at 8:15 saying school is canceled
DeleteThe Orchos Chaim system is broken, they can't get a message out. But a Rebbe confirmed that there is no school today.
ReplyDeleteParents, make sure your children learn and daven today. It isn't a vacation and the world needs the תינוקות של בית רבן
Orchos chaim sent out a message
ReplyDeleteThousands of boys and their parents had their learning disrupted today due to a power outage. The town’s infrastructure can’t keep up. Lakewood is overbuilt, overwhelmed, and under-planned.
ReplyDeleteWhat will be with the hevel pihem shel tinokos shel bais rabban, the pure Torah learning that holds up the world? How many more days like this? How much more bittul Torah?
And still, more construction is rubber-stamped while basic systems fail. It’s time to hold leadership accountable. Lakewood needs change — real change — and it can’t wait any longer.
And how much hevel pihem shel tinokos shel beis rabbon has been advanced through lakewood!! Yes, you notice the problem when there's an energy problem. If not for the Lakewood Yeshiva and kehila, would these kids be part of those who seek to learn Torah betahara. Say thank you if you would like things to be improved. You won't get a movement to vote for those who are so filled with negativity that they cannot say thank you as well, while seeking improvement.
DeleteThere is no net benefit to Torah in having all Bnei Torah in one town. Dividing them up among fifty towns would not result in less Torah.
DeleteBut if those Yungeleit wouldn't have 1 daily hour wasted on the drive to Yeshiva, we would have far more learning in the world.
Just because the learning is done in BMG's buildings doesn't mean they were the cause for it.
Ahh but every previous opportunity eg Sloatsville was negated by the resident GH
DeleteWhere are the fake angry outraged videos from our assemblyman and commiteemen screaming about JCPL
ReplyDeleteWhy have they gone quiet
and this is right after JCPL raised its rates dramatically. Ridge area gets hit with blackouts often and it has been going on for years. nothing has been done to address this effectively in a decade. where are our elected officials? Lichtenstein Schnall Miller Ackerman here you have an opportunity to do something that would ingraciate the people and they might even vote for you without being guilt-tripped into it by the vaad. think about the radical departure from lakewood politics that would be. a local politician helping the regular people who don't line the politicians pockets....
ReplyDeleteIn extreme heat and storms there are hundreds of power outages. This happens all over the world, yet in Lakewood we are outraged. Maybe we all relax and understand that this is the reality and there is not a lot that can be done.
ReplyDeleteOther commenters offered specific reasons why (correct or incorrect) we consistently have outages. If you addressed the issues they raised either disputing or debunking them your comment would be appropriate.
DeleteOverbuilding is not the cause, extreme weather is. I don't see anyone having a solution to that.
DeleteHow do you know carrots are good for eyesight? Have you ever seen a rabbit with glasses? Must be because they eat carrots.
Yes there is overbuilding but there is no proof that there is any correlation to the black outs.
so the cause is global warming?
DeleteWe never had a power outage. In Boro Park Flatbush. Only the NYS blackout in 77, and we had power later that night.
DeleteI lived in northern NJ for years, and except for the hurricane in 2012 (one hour blackout / flood) never had a power outage.
Boro Park has had many outages with transformers exploding. Just search for it on boropark24.
DeleteI live in NNJ and have had power outages, and have had guests who had power outages, while we had power.
Happening right now: https://www.boropark24.com/news/thousands-still-without-power-after-four-days-of-outages
DeleteExtreme weather just exacerbates overbuilding which causes undue stresses on a power grid which is only designed for fewer homes. utility companies need to know a decade out what type of infrastructure is necessary for the future when you overbuild beyond what anyone could have fathomed you obviously stress the power grid which was not designed for so much electricity demand. When hot weather increases the demand it crashes.
ReplyDeleteThere is a thing called urban planning. There is a way to do things by being proactive instead of reactive. Before a development is built, the infrastructure around it and serving it, have to be upgraded accordingly. I am in Lakewood long enough to remember that when West Gate was built, they had power outages all the time. That was because the electricity was not upgraded in the area to accommodate such a large development. Many years later the electricity was upgraded. Years later the water pipes under the ground in the Central Ave. area had to be upgraded. Years later, the traffic patterns were adjusted on Central Ave. to accommodate the increased traffic. All these things should have been done before West Gate was built, as a preparation for the increased population in the area. The same thing repeats itself all over town. The builders are allowed to build without any preparation. Then we wake up and adjust the infrastructure. What a disgrace!
ReplyDeleteThis is what happens when politicians and public servants are appointed by a select few people who are usually unaffected by the outcomes and often benefit, directly or indirectly $$$. The rest of us continue to suffer. The system won’t change until the cabal is dismantled.
DeleteIt’s time for regime change!
How? Again, How?
